DRR has just made a kick'ass release to DRR-NES, his Nintendo emulator for DOS, made in Quick Basic. First of all, this version should be fifty (50) times faster, due to memory handling optimization. Some mappers were also implemented (six mappers, actually) lot of CPU bugs were fixed. Quoting the author: "Most games run at 12-15 fps on my P166 with the exception of mapper #1 games that do about 1.5 fps because of constant bank switching. Demos go over 60 fps. ".

To prepare you for the upcoming Meka and BrSMS releases, I am releasing the first two SC-3000 roms. For those of you who don't know, the SC-3000 is Sega Computer. The first rom is the Sega Basic Level 3, in it's first european version, and the second one is a music composer program. Although both roms are for the first time publicly released, they were dumped about ten years ago (!) by the group Image/Helsinki/Finland. Thanks goes to Lasse (of the same group) for sending them to me.

Posted on Emu News Service: "I have a very important announcement to make and I'm not sure where to begin, but I'll try to do my best. A little less than a year ago, I moved this website from its original location on America Online to ClassicGaming.com. Without going into the nitty gritty details, it was a mixed blessing. Sometime after my move, ClassicGaming.com (which is a part of Critical Mass) registered the domain name www.emunews.com. They did so without telling me. In fact, I didn't even find out about it until much later. You can imagine my surprise when I read about it in a posting on Zophar's Domain's message board. Furthermore, for some reason, www.emunews.com leads to ClassicGaming.com's main webpage, not EMU News Service. When I tried talking to them about this, they refused to discuss it. In fact, they never bothered to respond to my e-mails or ICQs. This went on for months. I finally got sick of it and last week I sent them an ultimatum. Only then, did they finally respond. And when they did, they refused to transfer the domain name over to me. So I sent them a personal letter, pointing out all the things I have done for them over the past year and asked them to reconsider. They refused. I was told, in no uncertain terms, that ClassicGaming.com is not about emulation; that it's a business. They value money over people. On the one hand, it's only a domain name. In the grand scheme of life it's not that important. But on the other hand, I sort of feel betrayed. I thought they were my friends. I thought they were people I could rely on. But they did all of this behind my back. For months, they continuously ignored my e-mails and ICQs. They handled this whole thing very unprofessionally. And even though I was willing to pay them what they paid for the domain, they still refused. Before I go any further, I want to make it perfectly clear that I firmly believe that both ClassicGaming and Critical Mass are entitled to run their business anyway they want. I respect their right to run their business as they see fit. I have no quarrel with that. However, it is now clear to me that these are not the type of people I wish to work with or with which I wish to be associated. Therefore, effective March 1st, I am permanently moving EMU News Service off of ClassicGaming's server. It is vitally important that everyone go to this page and bookmark it now. If anything happens between now and March 1st, this page will be the only way you can find out where I've moved. There's a very good chance that once ClassicGaming finds outthat I've decided to leave, they will kick me from their server. You may come back tomorrow only to discover that this site doesn't exist anymore. So, please bookmark this site now. You may not get a second chance. With that said, I fully intend to continue to update this page on a daily basis until March 1st (or as long as ClassicGaming/Critical Mass permits me to do so). With any degree of luck, they might be nice and even let this site stay up for a couple months after I move so people can find my new address. Also, I want to take this opportunity to make a second announcement. I've been working on a complete site redesign for some time now. With the exception of a few odds and ends, it's been done for almost 2 months now. But because I was having all these problems with ClassicGaming.com, I didn't want to debut the new design until these matters were settled. Even though things did not work out in my favor, I will debut the new EMU News Service about a week (or so) after it moves to its new location. It's going to really cool and you can expect to find quite a few sup rises :) I think everyone's going to like it a lot. And for those who were worried that I might change the site too much, worry no more. I have something special planned just for you. Finally, I want to thank everyone for their support over the last 2 years. It's been a bumpy ride and this webpage could not have survived this long without your support. Thank you very much. - Jim Pragit Again, please go to this page and bookmark it now. " I don't think it is necessary to add any comments to Jim's message. If you want to know more about how Classicgaming proceed, you can also read the message on MAME Homepage. As it was not enough, NoFrendo homepage, that was closed on Classicgaming, was shutted down by it's author for the same reasons as Emunews. Links: Emu News Service |

A guy named Jakesh is (supposed to be) working on a CPS-2 emulator. As he state on his homepage, Kallus 2 does "run" some games, and (black & white) screenshots from X-Men: Children of the Atoms are available. There was two fake CPS-2 emulators announced in the past, so let me talk about this one. First, X-Men: COTA was ported and released to PC, and the port even includes the hardware tests that are shown on the only available screenshots. Secondly, if you go backward on Jakesh's Geocities account, you will notice this guy is a warez collecter, so basically it isn't the type of an emulator author. Third, I don't see a reason why the pictures were streched to 400x300, as it is a very un-common resolution. Now if you want to believe, there is a technical document about CPS-2 encryption on the page, and it seems legit (although I do not know a lot about 68k processors). Now go and make your own opinion..

Here's a new version of everyone's favorite Gameboy emulator, DBoy!! (for DOS). As usual I have changed the file from the .lzh to a .zip extension (which I call lamer proofing). Have fun with this now.

Sam Pettus has finally released his long awaited Sega 8-Bit Chart. For those who don't know him (which I doubt), he is the author of a Genesis Chart and a Super Nintendo one. The goal of these charts is to list all games for a specific system, rating them, and comparing their behavior on different emulators. This new document features all Master System, Game Gear and SG1000 games released so far (313 games) and the tested emulators are BrSMS, Massage, Master Gear and MEKA.

A new version of JFF (short for Just For Fun) was released today. This is a multi-game arcade emulator for DOS that runs games like Ambush, Ninja Kid II and Higemaru, among others. Version 0.18 includes new features such as support for Mutant Night and now uses the PMode DOS Extender, as well as the usual bugfixes.

Gaijin Productions has finally released a complete version of Rainbow Silkroad for the NES! From the screenshots, this looks to be quite an original RPG. You can find the rom at the Gaijin homepage, or in a certain passworded rom site (which has a really crappy translation section, by the way) under the name Niji no Silkroad.

xabbott has let me know about a couple of translations for Pokemon Green (GB) and Pokemon Yellow (GB). Although they're nowhere near finished, and the project was abandoned, the translation looks very clean and compares well with Nintendo's translations of Blue and Red.

For those who thought RockNES was dead, some news were just posted on the homepage. The upcoming release will feature a more accurate interrupt code (allowing for raster effects) and with emulates the eight sprites per line limitation (as some games depends on it). Last but not least, the speed was slighty improved (there was a problem with the old interrupt system that caused the emulator to slow down a lot). Expect a release soon..

Hello all emu fans. I'm Raven and I'll be handling some new emu releases, updates and that kind of stuff that comes up around here. I've been a big supporter of this page for a long time, so I figured I'd help out around here. I hope I can be of some use around here since I am online most of the day, so I hope this page can be updated more often with me around. :)

After weeks of promising I've finally delivered on opening the Gameboy demos and legal roms section!
Emulation Camp is now the number one source for free and legal Gameboy games (and for other systems as well!) on the net with a stunning total of 102 ROMs!
And for you coders out there we've got source for 13 of those ROMs! Enjoy!

BrSMS 1.17 was finally sent to registered users, introducing the new Parrot filter, which will make the graphics looks much better in certain cases. Standard interpolation (the same as in ZSnes) was also added. Last but not least, the usual minor bugs were fixed. And for those who are wondering, Ricardo is now working on a Gameboy emulator.

Lemmy has just released an update to Nemu 64, his Delphi-made Nintendo 64 emulator. This version fixes the usual bugs and adds emulation for some new opcodes. Last but not least, it is now much faster. For those who forgot after the UltraHLE rush, Nemu 64 is still the best emulator to run demos.

Yessiree I love the Gameboy emulators! More news on helloGB: pop3 (author) has emailed me in attempts to track down the nasty bug some people are having.
It seems ot work for some people but not for others, but the reason why is not currently known.
Thanks to Big Ernie and Erick Hauser for e-mailing me thier specs, which makes hellGB seem to be on par with DBoy as far as function, but for Windows instead like SmyGB.

Hey it's me, Spinner 8, helping out PiR2 on the translations until he gets settled in. Hopefully over the next week all of the translation pages will be completely up-to-date once again, so watch out kueller! :) Anyway, TransBRC has a page once again, and has released two new, COMPLETE translations: one for Cosmic Wars (NES) and one for Nectaris (GB). Also on the page is a completed translation for Technos Ice Hockey (NES) that I didn't even know about. :) You can download the Nectaris rom directly from the TransBRC homepage, since it's a little hard to find. Have fun!

Here's a new Color Gameboy emulator that surfaced over the weekend. helloGB is for Pentium class machines running Windows with DirectX 5.2 or higher but other than that I can't tell how good it fares compared to the others.
I don't think it runs on non-Japanese Windows platforms. If any of you could send an e-mail saying how well it is I'll post it here and make you famous!

You though they were dead? After a few months of idle, the Dead Serious Clan, authors of the very first NeoGeo emulator (Gekko) have released the long-awaited update to Shark, their multi-arcade emulator for Windows/DX. This version seems to be a complete rewrite, and it already supports fifteen games, including a lot of un-emulated ones - judge by yourself:
