Charles Mac Donald has moved his site to Emulation Camp. He is the author of SMSPlus, a Sega 8-bit emulator for DOS, and is also part of the MESS team (currently working on a PC Engine driver for it). His site also features technical information about the Sega System 24, as well as the boot ROM. 68000 hackers and emulators authors may be interested in them, and hopefully this system will be emulated one day :-)

I have updated Meka homepage with recorded Phantasy Star YM2413 musics. The YM2413 is an additionnal chipset included in Japanese systems, and some games take advantage of it (including the Japanese version of Phantasy Star). As Meka emulate this processor, you can expect to hear this kind of things on the version to be released on Saturday.

Not much has been happening this week except a flood of new MAME betas (we usually don't report on betas, only the finals.) However some big news is happening at Daves Classics. Seems UGO may be getting sued for hosting ROMs so they may have yanked Daves from thier server until the litigation is resolved. JoseQ of EmuViews hypothesises that this is an early April Fools Day joke, but I doubt it.

I hope there was not many people monitoring the news yesterday. I spent the day working on Meka's interface, but there are still some major sound bugs to fix. The emulator will be released on April 3 - or maybe someone want a version without sound ? :-)

Johan Fitié has released a new version of Come Back 64, his Commodore 64 emulator for DOS (to be ported to Windows soon). As the homepage is a big mess, I wasn't able to find any informations about what's new in this version. Sources are included in the package, for those who are interested.

Two years anniversary today! The site was first opened as Master System Camp on March 27, 1997, then was announced on Node 99 (the best emulation site at the time). It was two years ago that I released my first Master System rom - it was Ghostbusters. Well, I'm glad that we're still here after two years, and I wish to thanks every visitors for their support.

I am currently working on finalizing Meka to be able to release it today. So be sure to check this page again, you may find a surprise here. Back to work..

After all the negative e-mails the bleem! team recieved after the last demo, they decided to release a better version. This new build has color movies, improved compatibility, and is slightly faster. The three previous Japanese, American, and European versions have also been consolidated into a single "World" version. The full version of bleem! currently costs $24.95.

We are not dead (yet). And Emulation Camp's two years anniversary should be celebrated on the 27th March. Oh well, TransBRC has just moved to our server. TransBRC is a translation group (well, I do not know if "group" is the right word, as Blibber seems to be the only one in it :-), and some of their (his) patches includes Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z (for NES), Gameboy Wars Turbo and Gameboy Wars 2 (for Super / Color Gameboy) and Nectaris (a nice one from Hudson Soft). Well, now that Jim and Spinner 8 have quit, that kinda makes me wonder about myself. I love updating here and all, but I know I'm slowly dying here and I know i can't keep up with all the other emu sites. Therefore, I have decided to step down myself. I will still be around in the emu scene though. Thanks for the fun, guys. :)

Hey guys! If you didn't know, I quit Emucamp about a week and a half ago. :) I just realized I hadn't told anyone except the staff here, so now it's even more official than it was! And as a parting gift, here's a couple completed translations.

RPGe just released their third complete translation! Magic Knight Rayearth is a really really cool RPG, especially if you watch the anime. Fuu's the best, don't let anyone tell you different! :) This is only the fourth complete SNES RPG translation, and it looks excellent. A big thanks goes out to Lina-chan and everyone else at RPGe!

Also, Alex W. Jackson just finished up his translation of Final Fantasy 3 for NES. This should be at 100% now, and there's also a neat little mini-manual in the readme, describing all the classes. There's no official homepage, so you'll have to get it here at Emucamp. And no, it wasn't leaked :P

That's all. Bye! For translation news, you can go to RPG Dimension, or you can go to SitC if you're desperate. ;)

Hey there! I'm still alive ;) ... A brand new Nintendo 64 emulator has debuted, called Sunset. I actually thought this was the "next generation" emulator everyone was talking about way back when, before UltraHLE hit the scene. Heh... Info straight from the homepage:

Sunset is a Nintendo 64 emulator that currently has a crippled beta released. The purpose of the crippled beta is to show our 'intent', and nothing more. This release cannot run games, and the full release is not scheduled for any time soon, but it will be able to play games.

So, what is Sunset capable of, Hmm? Look at the status page and the compatability page. This emulator is ranking very high on the charts, but it is definitely not the highest. RDP and RSP are into what I call 'maturity' and dynarec (dynamic recompilization) is FAST! (And I can still speed it up.)

I haven't yet posted a copy here because the homepage has a disclaimer (agree/disagree thingy). But you can get it at the link below.

Der Pepe has just released his long awaited Neo Geo CD emulator. So far this is the first *working* emulator for this machine (which is basically the same as Neo Geo, but you can play original games on CD). The documentations are in Spanish, so I cannot say a lot about the emulator. All I can tell you is that the emulator use the MSCDEX interface, and CD-Rip won't work, "que los emuladores no son warez, joder!". Even a non-spanish reader should understand, and I agree with the author :-)

We experienced some problems with the site yesterday, as the guys at Emulation World were upgrading. Everything should be back to normal now.

I received several e-mails concerning the Sonic Serie/Anime. Let me quote some of them:

"Sonic Underground is a new Sonic animated series which is now aired (i believe only) in France for now, but should make its way to the US in the near future (I hope, I hope). That screenshot and mpeg were both taken from this page, where you can get the full story: Sonic Underground Pictures (the page isn't mine). Also, those 26 Sonic "anime" episodes aren't from a Sonic "anime", rather they're from the Sonic ABC Saturday morning cartoon series that was aired from 1992(3?)-1995. They're still a gret watch though. Heh, you can tell I'm a Sonic nut, right :)"

    -Racewing

"Someone's probably already told you this, but I do remember the series. It was shown here in America on ABC (American Broadcasting Company, now owned by Disney, and therefore, incapable of showing anything worth watching anymore) on Saturday mornings back in about 1992. Or something close to that. There's another cheesier and more children oriented Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon out there, produced by Sega itself. Don't even bother finding it. It's worthless."

    -Paul Blake

Well, I think that's enough for you to understand. Again, thanks to all of you who e-mailed me about this, and sorry for the late answers, I was testing my new cable-modem :-)

Thanks to Deep Space, you too can know what's new in PiR2's new Final Fantasy 3 (SNES) French Translation! New stuff includes: "some enemy names (±10%), the beginning of the introduction of the game, and some specific texts appearing during combat scenes (±5%)."

A found a nice extract from Sonic Underground (a TV serie) on the Swedish Seganet. Click on the picture to view it (if you browser support Mpeg. If not, right-click and save the file somewhere on your hard drive).

Voices are in french, and judging by the bottom logo, it is a recent serie. Anyone knowed it's existence ? A while ago, I remember having seing a serie with Mario and Link (the guy in Zelda)..

This day will probably stay in the memory of tons of people around the world. First of all, ROMLIST decided to retire themselves. Both Org2 and Aracorn decided that they should turn the page and jump to something else. I wish them luck in anything they want to do now and ROMLIST will certainly be missed from everyone.

The second departure is RealityMan from UltraHLE. He also decided to leave the emulation scene to work on other things. If you want to read the full statement, just follow the second link of this update. Again, I wish RealityMan the very best for his life.

PiR2, also known as "that guy who should be doing the translations here :P," has put out a new version of his English-to-French translation of Final Fantasy 3 (SNES). I can't read French, so I can't tell you what's new. :(

Gaijin Productions has released a small follow-up to their complete Rainbow Silkroad (NES) translation. Nothing has changed except for a text file in the zip warning NESticle users of a possible crash bug.

The ever-busy TransBRC has released an update to its already-complete translation of DragonBall for NES. New in this release is a MUCH-improved font and a mapper change, so it's supported by the new LoopyNES.

There's a new "secret" beta for LoopyNES! Remember how you could get a new version a while ago by clicking on the "L" in "LoopyNES"? Well, there's another one, just released. As far as I can tell, the only reason that Loopy released a new one is so that it runs Dragonball now. :) If progress continues, LoopyNES can easily become the best NES emulator around.

I guess I forgot to mention this in my update. A new version of TOSBOX is out. This beta, as said on the homepage, is not yet fully tested and you have to be familiar with TOSBOX to use this new version. The new release focuses on speed, compatibility, video modes, etc. Be sure to check this out. Since this version is not an official one, I will not put this on EmuCamp... well it's also because I need rest! :)

Let's update this site for a bit. It's going to be huge so if you find some spelling mistakes here and there, don't be surprise. First of all, the new MAME (0.34b4) is out 2 or 3 days ago adding support for again a bunch of new games and clone. Be sure to check this out, and also note that the MAMEWiP page is updated nearly everyday and it is full of interesting news. (Note: There's a bunch of "clones" of MAME that were updated to the lastest release too like KBMAME etc.)

A new release of Shark happened some days ago too adding the very good Rally bike in the list of games supported. There might be some other cool feature added but since there was no text nor any speech from the Death Serious Clan, we don't know if the list of new features is longer than that.

Let's go with a not-so-old news. JoseQ from the very cool EmuViews released a new chronicle of his Rumor Mill. A must to read for everyone. (You should take a look at the Meka part in this article, very interesting)

To finish this little(?!?) update, let's speak of the VB Emulator. The Unofficial Nintendo Virtual Boy Homepage is reporting some cool things about the upcoming version of VBEmu98. The infamous FPU problems are now a part of the past. This good news brings the counter of "fully playable games" on this emulator to 4. Keep up the good work! Let's hope nobody felt asleep during this update. Please note that I will try to upload the new mame, shark, etc. on EmuCamp but I have to sleep just like you guys too.

Apparently, the new version of BrSMS (1.18) released a couple of days ago is unstable, according to the author, Ricardo Bittencourt. "Sometimes it crashes when you press a key, sometimes it crashes when you enter in the debugger, sometimes it doesn't begin at all. These errors seems to be related with Win95." A new version will be released soon.

Meka, Zoop's excellent new Master System emulator, has been ported to Windows, by Jason Nelson. This means that there will be DOS, Linux, and Windows versions of the emulator... and who knows what else? ;) Nothing has been released as yet, but you can check out the DOS beta at the homepage.

Eric Bole-Feysot, the author of WinFronT, has released RomCenter, a MAME rom manager for Windows. It works with all MAME derivatives (which it can automatically detect and repair), and can install, check, and repair roms. Worth a look if you're a MAME fan- and don't try telling me there aren't many of those :)

BrSMS 1.18 released to registered users ! This version adds lot of good things: SC-3000 emulation (Sega's Computer), lightgun emulation, and also fixes tons of bugs. I bet BrSMS now have the best compatibility out of all Master System emulators (including mine). If you aren't registered, the public version should be available next week. Until them, be sure to get the hacked SC-3000 roms files: the one I posted two days ago were protected, and Ricardo Bittencourt prefered to modify the file instead of modifying the rom when loaded in memory, so you'll have to get the hacked roms or you won't be able to use the Basic and the Music composer in BrSMS.
