It seems that we missed a bunch of DGen update in the past few days. Since version 1.04, the interface has been improved, six buttons joypads emulation has been added, as well as various sound improvement (FM should be more accurate now, and PSG sound has been introduced, for some games that uses it). The latest sources are also available, and Richard Bannister made a Macintosh Port out of it. Hopefully a Linux port should be available soon, assuming someone will bother doing the port ;o)

Congratulation to Dave Krueger for being visitor 777777 :-)
Also, a cool site name the Video Game & Emulation Emporium (VGEE for short) has moved to Emulation Camp about a week. It covers most consoles systems, as well as the arcade, and provides tons of informations about the systems, screenshots, links and of course the emulators. You may also want to check it's interesting Glossary, Press and Attic sections. |

Pretendo 0.03 released ! Who thought this new emulator would become so good in a short period of time ? As well as being much faster than version 0.02 and fixing bugs, this update adds support for more than twenty new mappers ! It doesn't have sound yet, but at this rate you can expect it in a few weeks, and an interface is even being worked on. Cool :-)

Sam Pettus (known as The Scribe, the author of a tons of console listings and documentations), just sent us a message announcing is departure:
"As of today, I am discontinuing all of my emulation-related documents with the sole exception of the "Emulation: Right or Wrong?" article, aka the Emulation FAQ. This includes but is not limited to the SNES Chart, the SNES Software Source, the Genesis Game Guide, the Sega 8-bit Chart, and any updates I may have promised or contemplated on previously released or similar works such as the N64 Chart, the Sony PSX Chart, and the Comprehensive Sega 8-bit Software Guide, or anything else along these lines that I might have forgotten. This is not because one or more of the original vendors and/or their agents has "leaned" on me in any way, so to speak, but my continuing research into the legality of emulation has convinced me that to maintain these documents does not qualify for "fair use" protection under US 17 CFR 107. In accordance with such, I am promptly disposing of my emulation libraries and will no longer maintain my documents. I also deny permission for anyone else to resume and/or maintain my documents in their current or a derivative form. I have a real-world job and a real-world life to consider. Since it is almost inconceivable that I could legitimately purchase copies or obtain legitimate access to every single title that I have documented in the Nintendo, Sega, and Sony software libraries, it would be improper for me to continue reporting on them. It would be quite difficult as things stand for me to prove that this qualifies as "fair use," and I do not have deep enough pockets to do so. As such, even though it pains me to do this, I must discontinuing my active involvement in the emulation community. "Emulation: Right or Wrong?" will be my swan song for the emu scene, after which I shall move on. The water's just too deep for my liking." I must admit his message is a bit disappointing, as his documents were still being updated a few days ago. For those who are wondering about what are the precise reasons for such a decision, Sam will be explaining them on his "Emulation: Right or Wrong" FAQ, which is being worked on. While Sam is doing more researches about the legality of emulation and the work done on his documentations (which apparently worried him), he asked us to remove his listings and FAQs from the site. Until then, and if you are definitively abandonning them, I wish you the best for your other projects, Sam. |

Wow, someone took the time to update this site ! ;-)
The author of DGen has just released version 1.04, fixing the usual bugs and adding interlace mode emulation ! You heard it right: Sonic 2 is now perfectly working on this emulator, and you can enjoy the (weird but cool) two players mode of it. For those who never played Sonic 2 before, you'd better try it now - at my opinion, it's probably the best Genesis game ever made. And Emulation Camp site design was based on this game, too (look at the Super Sonic sprite at the top of the page - hehe I still remember how to transform to it :-) Links: Homepage - DGen 1.04 Win [166 kb] - DGen 1.04 DOS [261 kb] |

Dan Boris, the author of Virtual 2600 and V5200, both Atari console emulators, today released V7800, the first Atari 7800 emulator. For those who don't remember it, the 7800 was released around the same time as the NES and Sega Master System. This emulator was originally part of MESS, but has been released separately for those who don't want to wait.
This is a quick release, but does run most games and features sound support. Thanks to SAV2880 for the news.

If there is one system I would love to see emulated, it is definitively the Mega-CD (called Sega-CD in America). Well, just a word to say an emulator called MekaDrive, is being worked on. Not by me, but by Charles Mac Donald. I'll join the project later, provided I don't miss my exams. Don't get too excited, the emulator is still in preliminary stages (and having a near perfect Genesis emulator before would be a good idea).
For those who never played on Mega-CD, here is a few pictures taken from Lunar The Silver Star, as well as the introduction music. If after that you still do not admit this system rocks, go get a life ;P ![]() Link: Lunar Introduction Music [1579 kb] |

Being quite possibly the only staff member who loves the NES over just about every other console, I jumped at the chance to post this =). For all you NES game music lovers out there, a new format called NESM has been created. Based on the concept of SI
D files for the C64, a NESM .nsf file includes all the music code ripped from the game and code to play the songs, as well as some title/artist info. As of this time, there are 2 decent players for .nsf files. The first, NESamp by Bananmos, is a
Winamp plugin that's rather buggy and has an interface that I don't care for personally. My recommendation is that you grab nosefart instead, a little utility by Matt Conte of Nofrendo fame. The sound produced by nosefart is incredibly clo
se to the real deal, and I'm sure Nofrendo itself will sound just as good if not better once Matt finishes it up. A .nsf archive has been created at Zophar's Domain, so head over there for some .nsf's to listen to.

files for them. The lists for seven systems are already available on the site, and I must admit I was impressed by the Sega 8-bit one, so hopefully the other should be pretty complete too. I suppose XuX will need help to work on such a project, so be sure

This a news I wanted to post a while before, but I forgot to do so :) I have recieved several e-mail from serious sources about the fact the Pocket Station emulator that was "released" a few days ago is a leaked program and come from an officia l development kit. As shown on the about box, the emulator was made with SN Systems. By checking the link provided above, you will notice they also make Playstation and Nintendo tools for registered developpers. So basically the program is illegal, so you are invited to delete it if you want to stay clean :-) I also recieved some e-mails regarding roms. Most recents Playstation games are supposed to contains some, and they are mostly using the .PDA file extension, although some don't. According to Ziggy, they have a 56 byte headers that must be removed, bu t I cannot confirm since I do not own any Playstation games. Link: SN Systems |

quote me on that, heh), and it will features supports for tons of new systems. In no special orders: PC, Atari 7600, Enterprise 128k, Amstrad CPC, MSX and PC Engine. Beware, some of the drivers (PC Engine comes to mind) probably won't be usable so soon.
As for the other systems, the Master System emulation was highly improved, and everything will be synced to the latest features included in recent versions of MAME.

A new version of Sephiroth's DOS port of DarcNES for Unix is due to be released, and according to the web page, here's what's new: New features: Frameskip - Yeah, that was the "surprise" feature of the never-released 990428.... It currently works well, and surely gives a speed boost when activated. It's enabled via the command line (-frameskip [n]) and n can be any value from 0 (default) to 9 . Error Messages - I should have added this since the first release... :) Now DarcNES gives you error messages if you pass a wrong parameter, if it can't find the ROM, etc... If you type just "DarcNES", it will give you a "mini-help". Following the Linux version, there's primitive Genesis support (doesn't work yet) and some sound support on the SMS, but read below... :( Problems: Frameskip currently only works with the NES/SMS/GG. I'm still implementing it on the TG-16. The SMS sound code freezes the system when DarcNES starts.... I'm working on this, and (hopefully) it will be fixed before the release.
