Translation
(posted by Spinner 8 - 23:44)

Lots of patches released recently. Here goes:
  • Kikuyama has released patch version 0.05 of Square's Tom Sawyer (NES).
  • Lord KnightHawk has re-started his Sailor Moon: Another Story (SNES) translation from scratch, with an improved font, and released patch 0.01b. The old patch has more translated, so it's still available for download. Note that you'll need the SRX expanding program to apply the new patch.
  • ShadowSlayrX started work on Ys 5 (SNES), and released patch Beta 1.
  • Ultima Translations released patch 0.0001 ALPHA alpha alpha alpha alpha for Final Fantasy 6 (SNES). Obviously not quite done yet :)
  • Zealsoft Translations released a patch 0.085, a minor update for Dragon Quest 5 (SNES). Also, they have decided to drop Maison Ikkoku (NES), and are asking for translators to help with an as-yet-unknown project.
All of these patches are now online at Emucamp, as well as the SRX program. As for other languages, I'm still busily working! They should be up by this week. As always, feel free to mail me if I'm missing anything.

Genesis / Sega-CD
(posted by Zoop - 16:25)

Apparently, yesterday's version of Virtual Genesis was a private beta. I don't know who started spreaded it, but I'm sorry for having helped spreading it. Well, Jason Meehan has just released a public version of it. You can know choose the Sega-CD BIOS to use from the interface, and a documentation is available. Also, be sure to run it under Windows. Although it may crash when quitting, it won't run at all under pure DOS - probably because it uses some un-allocated memory.

A new version of Jason Meehan's Virtual Genesis has been found on the Internet.. with preliminary Sega-CD/Mega-CD support! Ok, don't expect to be able to run your games yet, but it shows the bios screens. To try them, you'll have to rename a file to us_bios.bin then change country flag to the appropriate one (under the interface). As for the version number, it says 0.13 while the previous version was 0.18, and the emulator still play Genesis games. So maybe it's an old version with preliminary Sega-CD/Mega-CD support, maybe it's an unsupported beta.. I cannot say much since it's doesn't have documentations. Contact me if you have any additionnal informations.

We apologize for any confusion caused by Wednesday's story concerning the IDSA (Interactive Digital Software Association). We did not intend to mislead anyone by erroneously typing ISDA (Innovative Systems Design). The two organizations have nothing to do with each other, but because we made a typo, several irate readers of our site contacted the wrong company. Hopefully everything has been settled and we again apologize to ISDA for leading people to believe they had done something they had not.

As far as when things will return to normal, I have not been told exactly when yet, but hopefully soon. A lot of things may come into focus sometime on Wednesday, the 11th of November. In the meantime, if you want to discuss things live with other users of this page, stop by our two IRC chat rooms, either of EfNET #davesclassics, or davesclassics.liquidnet.org #davesclassics. You may also discuss any emulator or page related topic in the MAME message board, since the MacMAME.org hasn't come back yet. Hmm.. not much to download these days? To keep your modems busy, Harry Tuttle (of the well known The Dump), had the good idea to distribute a compressed PC Engine CD game: Dracula-X (which is nothing but Castlevania). Here is the deal: Harry is looking for several 70 megabyte (sic) web mirrors, then he will distribute the thing (compressed ISO files + MP3 audio tracks. Yes, you will need a CD burner to play it). Check the page below to know everything about his project, and prepare your modems ;-)

"This game (which happens to be part of the Castlevania series) was never released in the US, and it's highly sought-after. This project should hopefully give this game the exposure it so richly deserves."

There was a little problem with my yesterday's update, about Master System Scanned Boxes. Some people thought I had scanned all these boxes myself, and some other didn't appreciated (and they are right) the fact that I forgot to mention from where the files where coming. Most of them (at least, of the one which were uploaded yesterday) were scanned and are coming from the SMS Museum, and since the webmaster of the site complained (and he is right, again), I prefered removing most of the scans from our page. They will be back if (and only if) we'll find an agreement with the various "authors" of these scans. For now, I suggest visiting these sites if you are in need of Master System related material, and visiting our Messageboard if you are in need of flaming someone (me). Enough said.

Emucamp is back !
(posted by the whole Staff - 18:00)

Ladies and gentlemen, after a long wait, Emulation Camp is finally back ! As most of you already know, our account at simplenet.com was mysteriously suspended four months ago, forcing Emulation Camp to close. Instead of quickly finding a new host and re-opening, we prefered using the "delay" we had to offer you a brand new experience when visiting the site, with even more features and better resources to provide them (we now have our own domain name, and a dedicated server). Because nothing is perfect in the real world, we prefered re-opening the site without having all sections up, allowing us to open it sooner. It means that you may (and you will) encounter the famous 404 error when browsing the site, and that most files (including emulators) are not yet available. We are working on adding them, so it should be a matter of weeks to see everything back. The search engine is not yet available, either, so do not waste your time trying to fill the search box with the word "roms" :)

There are now nine of us. We each have differents roles, and the work is shared between staff members. In case you wanted to submit a news (a good idea), we've had an e-mail address set up so that you can contact the whole staff at the same time. W
