BeMAME 0.36b5!
(posted by Delta - 22:55)

BeMAME is a port of MAME to the BeOS. Apparently, this version is up to par with the 0.36b5 DOS version. Unfortunately, I can't tell what else is new :(. MAME is a fantasic arcade emulator that needs no explanation.

PC-Engine... on the BeOS!
(posted by Delta - 22:47)

David Raingeard (of BeGameboy fame) has done it again. This time he brings PC-Engine/Turbo Graphx 16 emulation to the BeOS. Although this is the first version of BePCEngine, it features complete emulation, with only things like audio, and save/load states missing. BePCEngine features a GUI, as well as Joystick support, Scanline Effects, as well as frameskip. BePCEngine is also fully multi-threaded. To my knowledge, this is the only PCE emulator for BeOS.

MAMED Updated, and now, MESSD!
(posted by Reiginsei - 17:00)

MAMED (MAME for Digita) has been updated to version 36b15 and now has another emulator to join it's ranks. MESSD (MESS for Digita) is now available to. This means you can now play console games on your Kodak DC220, DC260, DC265, and DC290 digital cameras! The reason why I just say console games is because the computer systems wouldn't work too well since the cameras have no keyboards. You can download the new builds of both emulators at the homepage linked below.

Status Report - Sega 16-bit Project!
(posted by Chris - 15:30)

Sorry about the lack of updates recently, but things slowed down a bit due to various reasons (one of them being, that I'm about to start my own business these days).

Well, the good news is, we have finished making screenshots for over 930 Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, creating ~930 HTML files, etc. I bet you can imagine how many, many hours went into this ;) Now we are at adding facts with a little help of the great "G3"-list by Sam to all games, including known alias' as well as manufacturer info, genre and so on.

There's also a little "surprise" to be revealed soon, because we have added _complete_ screenshots and facts for another gaming system. Wait and see... we are not dead :)

More to come soon.

The status of Nofrendo
(posted by Daikak - 15:29)

Speaking of EmuGaming, platano17 sent an e-mail to Matt Conte, the author of Nofrendo, since it hasn't been updated in over a year. He got a response back and here's what he said:

Status: still being worked on. My job takes up most of my time, but lately I've been finding a half hour here and there to work on it. If you haven't heard, my NES sound core is being used in MAME/MESS, zd-spc, and MSP(miscellaneous sound player), and it's pretty much as close to the real thing as you can get. The rest of the emulator is getting there as well, and there should be ports to at least 3 or 4 popular platforms by the time of the release.

DGen 1.21 released
(posted by Daikak - 12:16)

Dave has updated his Genesis emulator DGen to version 1.21. Here's what's new:

+ Switched to Richard Mitton’s excellent RAZE Z80 emulator, which fixes
the out of time music on some games.
Most of you described the problem as ’the music isn't in
sync with the game’. Anyway, this is now fixed.

+ Sonic1/2/3, Aladdin are all fine now. I imagine there will be others.
Eternal Champions’s music is okay and you can play the game with Musashi.

+ DAC sound plays at the right pitch now (e.g. ’Sega’ chord, ’Eswat’ speech)

- No shadows yet (e.g. Sonic2 bonus game)

Fun with Icons.... and a few other things
    (posted by Delta - 23:13)

Hey guys! 'Tis I Delta again. I just have a little bit of news for all. First off, I have updated the Pretendo site with some news regarding the emulator, and my CPU core, Cake. Secondly, it has come to my attention that Pretendo needs a new icon. If you are good with making icons (I know I suck) then send an icon to me. There's no real deadline for the icon since I dont' know when the next Pretendo release will be. The winner's icon will be the new Pretendo icon, and he/she will get credit someplace. Finally, a friend of mine (trzy) has released the sources to the tile renderer of his NES emulator called Naughty. Although it's not the best renderer, it's good for starters who want to see graphics in their emulator quickly.

Yousei has posted some more pics from the FF3 Editor, and I must say, they look beautiful and are making me very anxious for a release =) While you're there, be sure to check out the new messageboard, you can field your questions about the editor there and get some answers to. Just don't ask when it's going to be released, that's a no-no since it's a stupid question, the simple answer to it is "When it's ready" of course... Oh yeah, and don't forget the SPC Disassembler, there's a message board for it too, and it's a great program if you want to learn some info about the insides of SPC Files.

DGen news - speculations about speed & compatability
    (posted by Opi - 11:46)

The DGen site has been updated with the following news:
If I were you I'd avoid playing Phantasy Star 4 on DGen - it has a problem where the screen blanks and the game crashes on some battles a fair way into the game. That would certainly annoy me if I was playing it...
Haven't a clue what's causing it. I get a few e-mails every week about this. Other games with trouble are War Song and Shining Force 2 I think. Regarding old versions and speed, any idea which was the best version in terms of speed? Speed seems to have really dropped between 1.00 and 1.19, but it's hard to say where the code was the 'best' (e.g. speed/compat tradeoff).

    Snes9x Windows V1.29 released - 3DFX fixed
    (posted by Opi - 07:30)

This is the updated Windows port of Snes9x 1.29 and here are the changes:
*** Disabled the SPC700 noise feature simulation used by Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 3 until I work out why its being triggered by sound effects that don't use it.
*** Rewrote/reorganised the DirectX and 3D/fx handling code, now both are never enabled at the same time in Snes9X. It might fix the crashing problems some Window port users are seeing. Changing between DirectX and Voodoo 3D/fx modes now requires Snes9X to be restarted.
*** Tracked down and fixed the Chrono Trigger black screen problem on the Windows port: a rogue asm instruction was left in by mistake after some code edits - it was only by chance that the code worked on the Linux port.
*** Added some SNES debug options to the Windows port, but disabled by default, on the shipped version.
*** Clicking on the column headings in the OpenROM dialog in the Windows port now sorts by that column; plus added some slight screen update optimisations.
*** Added an optimisation to graphics rendering: don't add or subtract sub-screen from background layers, or clear the sub-screen, if SNES fixed colour is black and no background layers are enabled on sub-screen, even if ROM tries to enable translucency effects for every background layer. Discovered Sonic was doing this, there will be others.
*** Forgot to enable auto S-RAM save on Windows port, oops!

We also want to help modem users experience the Sega CD to the fullest possible ability, so we will mirror ISO + MP3 versions of already available images on the Internet of Sega CD games.
*** This site will deal almost exclusively in Sega CD games (thus the name), but we will also post an occasional 3D0 CD Image here. At the current, this site will be dedicated to providing images to people who own Sega CD systems, and hopefully can also be a means of providing interest and images to promote future Sega CD emulation".

Apple IIgs Emulation good enough to eat
    (posted by Delta - 01:24)

Hey all! Looks like I'm the newest addition to the staff here at Emucamp. What ever possessed them to give me this job? ;). If you don't know who I am, I'm the guy (along with PrOxY) behind that NES emulator, Pretendo. I like cake. Well, enough about myself, and down to business. I've been running BeOS (along with Windows) for about 4 months now. With all the recent hype about R5 being free and stuff like that, I have a feeling that people will see it as a nice OS to write emulators for. It is mainly for those reasons why I have joined the Emucamp staff. I'll mainly be handling any BeOS related news, so if you have any, don't hesitate to contact me. Damn, I talk too much. Okay how bout an update?

Sweet16 1.3.2 has been released. Sweet16 is an Apple IIgs emulator for both Intel and PPC based BeOS systems. It emulates most IIgs functionallity and is highly compatible. This version is mainly a bug-fix version, however, the author mentions that HGR graphics now work right on Intel systems, and low-level mouse support also works.

This great ROM renaming, organizing, re-zipping utility has finally made it to version 1.0. The author states that this may just be the beginning for ClrMamePro. I wonder what that means? You can also use ClrMamePro for Callus, Impact, M72, MESS, and any other emu with datafiles available from the homepage. You can also make your own datafiles for use with it.
