He has done some work on the VDP2 processor and it is showing very big graphical progress. Things are looking pretty good in the world of Saturn emulation.

    Roni Meka 0.62
    (posted by Roni - 05:30)

Meka is a DOS emulator of the Sega Master System and other similiar systems. Here is what's new from the author himself:

"This version introduces a few things I was hoping to do since a long time, mainly a new 93c46 EEPROM emulator, meaning that the Game Gear baseball games that wouldn't save properly before are now perfectly emulated (saving their 128 bytes EEPROM on disk). Plenty other emulation fixes were done also, Z80 things (Rambo 3 Game Over screen is now showing properly), added emulation of onboard 64 kb RAM chip of Ernie Els Golf (GG), and started to add support for the four variations of the SMS/GG video processors, with some of their subtles differences (Japanese version of Ys now play as on a Japanese Master System 1, without glitches, and that without any of the previous hacks).
    "

Of course at this time this version is only available for registered users but should be available to the public soon, along with maybe a windows version of Meka for you all to enjoy.

    Roni Kawaks 1.41
    (posted by Roni - 14:59)

Kawaks which emulates CPS1, CPS2, and NeoGeo on the Windows operating system, has been updated. Here's the changes:

  • New drivers:
    - Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (US 980123)
    - Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Japan 980123)
    - Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Japan 980112)
    - Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Asia 980112)
    - Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors (Euro 940705)
  • Changed kof2000, garou, kof99 and clones romsets to be MAME 57 compliant. ## READ THE INCLUDED 'ROMCHANGES.TXT' FILE FOR MORE INFO. ##
  • Big optimisations to NeoGeo rendering
  • Added frame interpolation (replaces flickering by transparencies) I recommend you use this only if you have a powerfull PC enough, and with AutoFrameskip disabled
  • Added starfield emulation (CPS1. Affects Strider, Forgotten Worlds and their clones)
  • Fixed a NeoGeo calendar bug. Date is correct now
  • Fixed Street Fighter II' - Champion Edition (Japan) (CPS1)
  • Changed tracklists format for the better (more compact, and more flexible) The format it now the same as ElSemi's excellent JukeBox program Also, tracklist is handled dynamically: no need to reload the game to reload the tracklist.
  • Added the ability to cycle thru sound codes for CPS1 and NeoGeo games. Use Numpad +/- (It was already implemented for CPS2 games)
  • Hopefully fixed sound issues in Kof99 and clones thanks to Overlander
  • Fixed missing button 4 for CPS1 Quiz games
  • Hopefully fixed crashes if the Kawaks is run from a CD (or a non writeable directory)
  • Fixed bug causing (for example) Kof2000 chars to taunt at the end of a movie replay
  • Fixed some tick marks errors for record input slot and bg color in menus

  • Roni Kega 0.02
    (posted by Roni - 02:18)

Steve Snake has been at it again, and released another bugfix version or his Genesis / Sega CD emulator for Windows today. Changes in this release are:

  • Added workaround for bug in Nero's WNASPI32.DLL (thanks to all who made me aware of this problem)
  • Added the "incorrectly named ROM" fix to the ZIP support also, forgot to do that last time ;-)
  • Rewrote a SegaCD fix - I discovered why Snatcher keeps pausing a long time ago (before Kega's first release), and fixed it. I told Stef and he fixed it in Gens too. The difference is, Stef's fix actually worked, and mine didn't, because of a stupid typo. Should be OK now.
  • MANY compatibility fixes - more games should now work.
  • Added YM SuperHQ mode. When this mode is selected, the sound rate will automatically change to 44100Hz, and my YM2612 core will go into SuperHQ mode. This is probably about as accurate as a YM2612 core can get at this present time (well, it will be once I finally get around to adding LFO support!) - the Sonic "signpost" sound is now accurate, for example. But this mode is probably (I haven't timed it...) a fair bit slower, so you should probably only enable it for games that need it, or if you really care about the odd sound not being *quite* right.

This release can be picked up from our Genesis page. Enjoy.

  • Added Viewpoint.
  • Finally fixed save state bug in NeoGeo savestates. Now you can save and reload without hanging the sound chip.
  • Fixed music in Shock Troopers (now it doesn't hang after intro).
  • Added some basic renderers.
  • Fileselector recognizes your mousewheel!
  • Extended pro-Logiqxetor crc32 support and rom search.
  • Source: rewritten video interface code. Now the interface should be pixel correct & portable (I hope!).

    (posted by Roni - 00:34)

Xodnizel has been doing some work on his Nintendo / Famicom emulator recently and has made a new release available. Here is the changes:

  • Added/Fixed support for iNES mapper 248.
  • Fixed several bugs in the Namco 106 extra sound channel emulation code. Games using this chip sound much better now. Thanks to "Mamiya" and "Applepie" for help.
  • When an NSF file is being played, FCE Ultra will no longer go through its scanline rendering loop. This speeds up NSF playback substantially.
  • Fixed some iNES mapper 18 IRQ counter emulation bugs. "Ninja Jajamaru Ginga Dai Sakusen" now works.
  • Rewrote large pieces of the iNES mapper 64 emulation code.
  • Changed the way CPU/PPU cycle timing/counting is done. This should have no affect on NTSC emulation, but PAL emulation is more accurate now.
  • Changed the behavior of indirect indexed CPU instructions to behave more like they do on a real NES.
  • Header information is now displayed when an NSF file is loaded.
  • Changed the format of the iNES header information output.

There is a few OS specific changes on the Windows version, quoted above is the Linux readme. Downloads locally available are the Windows, Linux, DOS, and source code. They can be obtained on the Nintendo emulators page.

    Roni Kega 0.01
    (posted by Roni - 00:48)

Steve Snake has released a bugfix version of Kega which should fix most incompatibilities that people have been having. Here is the specifics:

  • Fixed stupid Shadow/Highlight bug in DOUBLE mode (I accidentally deleted a line)
  • Added 15-Bit Colour support
  • Added information on what to do if your display is in 32-Bit Colour mode. This will later be replaced by 32-Bit Colour support.
  • Kega no longer requires ASPI to be present (Just had to remove one line!)
  • Made a few changes to the CD-ROM functions. Hopefully CD-ROM problems will be gone now.
  • Rewrote Joystick handlers. Most, if not all, joysticks should work now.
  • Added the ability to remap Joystick Buttons. See below for more info.
  • Fixed the "APPLY" button, even though it isn't really neccessary, it was causing some confusion with several users. So now it works.
  • ZIP support. This is my own UNZIP code, using nothing but the RFC docs for reference. (in ASM ;-) ok, I'm a speed freak...) Kega does not require ZLIB.DLL.
  • Rewrite/Speedup to some CDC emulation code. Should improve SegaCD speed slightly.
  • Fixed stupid bug in .BIN format for SegaCD images.
  • Altered Genesis .BIN/SMD loader to handle incorrectly named files. Thanks to Dave for the hint ;-)
  • Several compatibility fixes. More games should work now.
  • Improved Country AutoDetection. Thanks to Eidolon for the info.
  • Cleaned up ASPI code.
  • Several other small fixes that I've forgotten about...

Download it from our Genesis emulators page.

    Roni RetroCoder Spectrum Emulator 1.07
    (posted by Roni - 23:39)

Definately don't hear about emus for the PSX very often, but here is a team that has modded a PSX to use a standard PC keyboard through the serial port, and produced a Spectrum emulator to use it with! Not only has this company done this, they have also many other products based on other systems (most are for sale items, so I won't touch on those) but the emulator and knowledge to hook up your keyboard to your PSX is free. From the mail it looks as though it can be burned to cd or used with caetla to run it from your PC to the PSX. You also need the Spectrum bios and any needed rom images. You'll have to click through a few links to find the Spectrum emu, but I'm sure if your interested you'll get there just fine.

Thanks goes to Anthony Ball (of the company) for the mail.

While this update is a few days old (site dated the 14th) I'll post it anyways. gngb is a Gameboy / Color emulator using the SDL library for Linux. With preliminary Win32 support (meaning results may vary when trying to compile). Here is what is new:

  • Improve FrameSkip code (should be more accurate)
  • Opengl mode now resizable (as YUV)
  • Add SDL_OVERLAY_YUY2 support (use option yuv_type 1 )
  • Add support for getopt_long (ex: --sound)

Thanks goes out to LinuxEmu for the news. Get it from the homepage linked below.

  • Roni NeoPop 0.13
    (posted by Roni - 10:53)

This is a Neo Geo Pocket Color emulator for Windows using Direct-X 8. Here is what is new:

  • Incorporated the RAZE z80 emulator, no sound yet, but it does boost compatibility a little with some commercial roms.
  • Made a start on a scanline based renderer but it still needs more work, so the tile based one is used here instead.
  • Fixed and Added a lot of instructions, "Bust-a-Move Pocket" now shows a lot of progress - but it is still unplayable.
  • Added manual memory alteration and status flag changes for homebrew developers to fiddle with (Hope this helps Flavor :-)
  • SMALL NOTE: A lot of commercial roms exploit a known memory hole in the emulator and can corrupt the internal settings. This means that the path, zoom and control settings will be forgotten. Sorry about this, but it's not a huge problem and simply comes about from incomplete emulation. (This problem has existed since v0.111 so it's not really a new thing, it's just that with more roms getting further into their execution, there are more that can corrupt the settings). I have tried to list all of the roms that cause this problem in the compatibility list, but I may have missed some.

I you find a rom that isn't mentioned in the compitability list as corrupting settings, then please e-mail me and i'll amend the list for the next version.

  • A lot of greyed out menu options have been included, these will be enabled as the features are added - I have no idea of when though. My focus is on compatibility features just now.

You can pick this up from the homepage for now.

This emulator is for Windows and features emulation of the Sega Genesis and Sega CD. Needed for emulation is Direct-X 8. This is a complete rewrite and is not a updated Kgen98, so don't expect it to be that. Well today we get a fresh version of Xega a Genesis / Megadrive emulator for Windows. New features in this great emulator are as follows:

  • 32X emulation !!! (without PWM sound)
Please read Xega.txt very carefully on how to get started with 32X emulation. Because of a timing issue you need to do a trick to get 32X emulation started.
  • New DirectDraw code
  • New DirectInput code (with full joystick support)
  • Stretch option
  • Added Doze Z80 core
  • Fixed CDC DMA transfers
  • SegaCD internal backup ram saving/loading
  • Fixed stopwatch timer
  • Added repeat bit to scaling/rotating engine
  • Command line options
  • FM Timers rewritten
  • Sync options
  • Fixed dot conversion
  • Added cell conversion
  • Fixed 68K -> VDP DMA
  • Major rewrite on VDP part
  • Fixed bugs in Z80 memorymap
  • Changed Z80 cycles

Please be aware that 32X emulation is slow, don't bother me about it (you should know it takes a LOT of CPU time to emulate 2 SH2's, a 68000 a Z80 and 2 VDP's and the sound emulators)
