Lee RuMSX v0.23
(posted by Lee - 03:21)

urh! popups! Lando, I agree..Kill them all:))

RuMSX v0.23 has been released. RuMSX is a MSX Emulator for Windows by Rudolf Lechleitner.

You can download the new version at ,as always, the MEP: (Nice helpful link provided)

New features are:

- Activation of different Desktop-Themes or the
"high-contrast" option could result in a strange
layout and required RuMSX to be restarted.
- Last-error field in Video-tab of the "Devices"
property-sheet did not have a word-break (single line)
- Locale-option "Windows keyboard" is now disabled,
because still not implemented yet!
- KEYBOARD.ZIP updated with old keyboard-layouts and
replaced *.KBD files with new ones. Please note that
the 1digit MSX-locale within the new files is for
information only.
- In some cases RuMSX V0.22 corrupted savestate-files.
This occured if saving a new state-file where the state
was restored from a previous RuMSX-version (i.e. V0.21).
Message "ERROR: stream VIDEOA(0) has an illegal size!"
- Added QuickSave- and QuickLoad-Option
(for evaluation only, hotkeys may change)
- Tape forward/rewind-buttons changed
- Propietary configuration files failed to load Kanji-ROM
(also happened to the outdated file MSXTRold.cfg)
- Updated MSX2P.ROM with 2nd release of ROM
(Thanks to Jirou Kaneda, ATARULUM@hitel.net)
- Dialog Options/Media enhanced to configure
behaviour of used tape-images. Tape-support improved.
- Minor corrections in support of new medias (tape, disk)
which discarded previously choosen files, if canceled
- Minor corrections in localized dialogs to
improve national language support
- InstallShield remembers directory of previous installation
(useful if default-directory was changed to another one)

thanks again to the mighty TFH/Fony

Frogacuda Pretendo stirrings
(posted by Frogacuda - 11:12)

After the apparent discontinuation of this venerable windows/BeOS NES emu, we see signs of life again on the Pretendo camp. It seems the authors have been very busy since they "killed off" the emu. There are a whole slew of new screenshots of the emu showing very good accuacy and compatability. What's more it is shown to be running in Linux and BeOS! A comeback can't be far behind. Keep your eye on this one.

Lee Bliss updated
(posted by Lee - 03:05)

The great Intellivision emulator BLISS has been updated.

New features include:-

Added the ability to save (F5) and load (F6) a game. You can finally replay those difficult levels over-and-over again.

- Finally found and fixed the bug some users experienced where double-clicking on Bliss.exe did nothing.

- Added a partial translation to Spanish. Thanks to Juan Fernando Rivera Pernía for this translation!

- Added a complete translation to Portuguese. Thanks to Leandro Stevanato Alves for this translation!

- Moved reset to F9. Reset was previously documented as being on F2, but because of a bug, it was actually F6, which was intended to eventually become the “Save” button. However, a user astutely pointed out that F2 was far too close to the “Pause” button (F1), so the final resting place for the reset button is now F9. Note that
all of these buttons will eventually become configurable just as the input is configurable now.

Frogacuda CPS2Mame
(posted by Frogacuda - 13:44)

Yesterday, CPS2Shock released the decryption tables for Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, which, when emulated ran extremely fast. 33% too fast, to be pecise. Some people began to suspect the CPS2 board's main CPU actually runs at 12 Mhz and not 16. Raz tested the theory, and as it would turn out, it was indeed 12Mhz. So Raz has released a new build of CPS2Mame set to 12Mhz. Don't fret, because the clock speed change doesn't slow down any other games, and should actually bring a slight performance boost to those folks with slower computers. This build also corrects some Q Sound issues, and is worth checking out. Get it at CPS2Shock.

fixo Final burn v0.100
(posted by fixo - 14:14)

A new release of the better emus around: Final Burn v0.103! Here's what's new:

  • Added Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (ETC).
  • Fixed SSF2 crc.
  • Fixed a bug where CPS1 games would not start if sound was disabled.
  • Doh! - there was a stupid bug: the video/system memory switch in finalburn.ini actually selected the wrong one! Fixed now - instead of reversing it, I just renamed the variable to nAppUseSysMemory. Remember, if Final Burn runs very slowly, before you buy a new PC, just try changing nAppUseSysMemory to 0 or 1 in finalburn.ini and see if it helps at all.
So there you go - head over to the official page linked below for the download.

Lopantu Modeler 0.1.1a
(posted by Lopantu - 01:20)

Modeler, the Sega System 32/Model 1 emulator for Win32 and Linux (and soon Macintosh too) has been updated to 0.1.1a. Here's what's new:

General

  • Disabled debug logging. On systems with slow harddisks this could dramatically slow down the emulator, and it tends to fill up your disk pretty quickly too.
  • Fixed slowdown problem (thanks to Richard Bannister over on the Mac port for the diagnosis).
  • Added "Force 555 video" option. If colors are weird, give it a shot.
  • Another video autodetect fix. This one is believed to work correctly in all cases, including 24 and 32-bit desktops and 555 video cards. (8-bit desktops aren't supported, so don't try ;-)

    Linux-specific
  • Minor changes to sound buffering that should slightly improve quality.

Aaahhh... Good to have things back to normal. I was really worried for the future of one of my favorite emus, but again we see 4 versions in a day, and we can be assured that things are back to normal. 0.101 adds just what everyone's been sking for. It now uses MAME ROM sets, and it adds support for Aliens vs Predator. With the newly improved accuracy and support, MAME's CPS2 support suddenly seems alot less exciting. Head over to get downloading.

    (posted by Frogacuda - 16:06)

Well after many (including myself) had given up on seeing any further development of CPS2 in Final Burn, the ever-forgiving Dave has seen fit to return to the system. Now you can play all your old favorites, as well as Super Street Fighter 2, and Marvel Super Heroes. What's more the emulation has been improved and all sprite Priority issues seem to be resolved. Some might be disappointed to learn that there is no support for Aliens vs Predator, and that there still exists that nasty backround glitch in SSF2, but I'm sure these will be corrected shortly. Have fun and be glad for what you've been given this time!

The work in progress page of MAME has been updated with the following news:

14th February 2001: Jürgen Buchmüller improved the sound CPU communication in the DECO Cassette system driver and added Boulder Dash - the original version. With Nicola Salmoria's help, he also fixed some 6808 CPU core bugs that prevented Fire Truck from working. Olivier Galibert fixed a small bug in the K054539 sound chip emulation that caused a few missing sounds in X-men. Quench fixed the Toaplan1 games to work correctly in 16bpp mode. Andrea Mazzoleni added a nice filtering sound resampling algorithm for the driver that do not produce sound at the requested sample rate.

fixo Modeler 0.1.1 Windows / Linux
    (posted by fixo - 17:30)

Modeler, the Sega System 32 and Model 1 arcade emulator, has been updated to File: modeler 0.1.1 for both Linux and Windows platforms. Here's what's new:

      General:
    • Yet another attempt at the 555 fix. If it doesn't work please post the contents of the "stdout.txt" file created by the emulator.
    • PCM banking improved. This fixes many missing sound effects in GA2, including the sword swinging and the character select screen noises.
    • Background graphics greatly improved for Sonic. This and other fixes made Arabian Fight about as playable, so I've enabled it.
    • Disable sound" checkbox added to GUI. Note that sound is used to generate the emulator's timing so the 60 FPS limiter is disabled when sound is off. We'll fix this at some point.

      Win32 specific:

    • DirectSound driver bugfixed, so sound is much clearer now on Win32 for many soundcards (it was fine for me before with SB Live / LiveWare 3.0, but apparently it wasn't for many others). This may also have caused unnecessary slowdowns on some machines.
    • Upgraded to the new SDL 1.1.8, which allows us to enable Sidewinder gamepad support (this was only available on Linux in 0.1.0 and 0.1.0a). The "M" button inserts coins and the "Start" button is player 1 start. You should be able to figure out the rest :-)

    Frogacuda Final Burn 0.097
    (posted by Frogacuda - 16:16)

Well I don't know how many of you are aware of the recent scandal surrounding Dave's magnificent arcade emu Final Burn, but it has been quite an ordeal. Apparently when Dave took too long (read: 2 days) to add support for Super Street Fighter 2 they began to nag, whine, call names, and worse yet hack the emu. So dave decided he would tak e a little break from CPS2 to work on the old Sega games in FB. And more name-calling, suicide threats, etc ensued. So now Dave has decided to wash his hands of the whole sordid affair, and has removed CPS2 emulation from Final Burn. He is now taking a break from the scene for an indeterminate length of time (as I agree he should and he deserves) but a few sick individuals are still angry with him (how you can be angry with somone who has given you so much for free, and done nothing against you is beyond me, but I guess it's not a rational thing). But for those of us who were behind Dave all along, he has given us a new version of Final Burn which, while it may lack CPS2 support, features soem very nice fixes for Thunderblade, Galaxy Force and Poer Drift. I reccomend a download. Pick it up at the homepage.

    - Removed sign-extended byte read functions (they were not being used)

It's fine to continue using Version 0.21, since this isn't really a bug fix version but the PC-relative read mode is applicable to some exotic hardware.

    Max Sega support emulation!
    (posted by Max - 19:18)

Sega are brining out a home development kit so it will now be easier than ever for more emulators for the Dreamcast to be made.

    From DCemulation.com

"The March issue of Next-Gen preludes us to some potentially great news. On pages 16-17 Next-Gen reports Sega will be releasing a home development kit for the Dreamcast. Basically anyone with a PC, and enough coding experience will be able to produce working code on the system.

This is keeping in a sort of tradition with failed Sega systems. Just before the death of the Saturn, Sega had released official tools for amateur Saturn developers to work with. Such a move for the Dreamcast will really give the scene a kick in the pants."

Forthcoming Dreamcast projects include a perfect Snes emulator (DreamSNES) and ports of ICQ and Mame. Head over to DCemulation for more info :)
