Yape (Yet Anothor Plus4 Emu) has just had a mega update! We are takling a good couple of weeks work and some neat surprises along the way added in :-)

Here`s the low down of the new:

  • added processor stop cycle emulation (only regular opcodes)
  • pause emulator with a hotkey
  • a new calculated palette, based on original Commodore specs
  • reworked sound emulation (courtesy of Zsolt)
  • illegal character ROM banking implemented
  • the wholewave/halfwave checkbox has been embedded to the 'Create TAP' dialog
  • redesigned ROM/RAM and machine configuration dialog window
  • optimised windowed DirectX modes
  • tweaked a bit some more on the horizontal dot counter
  • fixed the decimal mode ADC and SBC once and forever
  • fixed a pixelformat bug in 16 bit windowed DirectX mode
  • fixed some rarely used illegal CPU opcodes
  • fixed a keyboard repeat problem
fixed various bugs in some character modes

This is one of the coolest C16/Plus4 emu`s going and with the new sound support from Zsolt the magic of those classics comes to life even more. Hit the homepage now!

What more can I say.... "It must be Plus4 weekend"

I was looking back at some of the old mag`s from 1985 to 1989-ish and boy it was great reading. Over time the old C16/Plus4 had plenty on offer and I was surprised how companys like ANCO really pushed the adverts out for our fav games. I think the scanner is a must at some point in the future ;-)

Oh, and while you're there, check out the rest of the site :) It's probably the best Bubble Bobble resource on the 'net, any they even cover other great Taito games, too.

Lee Going Giddy
(posted by Lee - 12:54)

Tommy from Mondo Dizzy (Hosted here at Emucamp) has sent me an news email to post, Rather than water it down editing it, Here's the complete post...

"The creator of Giddy has now made the his newest game in the Giddy series, Giddy 3, shareware.

It was previously available as a demo to try before you buy, but he has had very little luck selling it. He's
now resorted to making the full version available so that people can try the whole thing and hopefully be
honest and pay for it.

I think it's important to begin supporting people like this. It's in the best interest for everyone to get retro-classic style gaming back into the mainstream. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks games went really downhill for the most part about 5 or 6 six years ago.
This game is truly exceptional quality, and not some Games Factory **** (well, I did edit that-Lee:).

It's very fun, has lots of humour and really good puzzles. This game is more than good enough that it could definitely have been on the shelves of games shops 8 years ago.
We owe it to people like this that give us a little bit of the good old days back.
The game is only a measly £5 and people that can't pay in sterling needn't worry, Phil is a reasonable guy
and can work something out.
If enough people supported people like Phil companies would see that this style of gaming is still popular and that people are willing to pay for it. Hopefully if people play this and decide to keep it they will buy it. I did."

well, As some of you should know, Giddy was released on the Amiga and played like the Dizzy games of old which are still popular today..Come on check it out...Thanks Tommy!

Lando Artifex - The New CBM Plus/4 Emulator is Released!
(posted by Lando - 16:27)

Zsolt had been gearing upto this release all week and said Today was the day and it's here!!! So in hope you catch this news before you reset for the night I thought I'd better post the news right now before even looking at it my self! Here's a list of the all important features:

  • CPU 60% - All documented instructions and some undocumented ones. Every instruction is cycle based.
  • TED 20% - All screenmodes and vertical smooth scroll. Raster emulation is not too perfect, it is fake raster. Most of the registers is "read only".
  • Disk 50% - "Read only" 1551 and PC Directory emulation.
  • Sound 90% - All features are emulated with an own sound mixer that can produce better quality sound than windows mixer can. There are still some small bugs, some games produces strange sounds. Digi-sound also supported.
  • Joystick 10% - Very early stage, I will implement more later.
  • Keyboard 99% - All features are emulated, exceptsome side effects of the TED.
  • Debugger 80% - Very usable but not yet finished.
  • GUI 75% - Nice GUI that I hope is user friendly enough.
Hit the homepage link now for your copy!! Big thanks Zsolt this is great to see at last :-)

fixo Genesis Power is shutting down
(posted by fixo - 17:45)

Another sad event just struck the emulation community. July 1999-February 2001 is the title of a post at the Genesis Power main page. It will shut down soon and here's an excerpt from the page:

"Well, folks, it looks like the end is near for Genesis Power. We just received notice from our gracious host that our server will be shut down by the end of February 2001. It appears someone complained about some of the files that were on the server in one of his other domains, so the hosting company is pulling the plug on all his domains. In the current emulation atmosphere, it was bound to happen sooner or later."
Not exactly happy news I would say. Head over to Genesis Power while you can to read the full post and to check what else's still out there.

Frogacuda Massage 1.0
(posted by Frogacuda - 11:05)

Wow, this is about 5 days old, but don't blame me for not noticing. About 2 years after it was initially supposed to be released to the public, the authors of Massage, one of the first Master System emulators, and the favorite of it's time, have released version 1.0. A good amount has been done since version 0.8 (0.9 went to registered users only). Here's what to look for:

    New in 1.0
  • Emulates undocumented screen mode! This allows SG1000/SC3000 cartridges to work! (Name the images as .SMS).
  • GG games can now be viewed with full Master System screen.
  • Improved x-value of lightgun (from Zoop).
  • Slightly improved lightgun target sight.
  • Bugfix : Mouse is now detected properly.
  • Bugfix : Hopefully SB will now start up everytime.

    New in 0.9:
  • INI file to set up options.
  • Redefinable keys (in INI file).
  • Slightly inaccurate lightgun support via the mouse.
  • Now with SB (2.0+) support, allows the simulation of the YM2413 chip via Adlib and the TI76489 chip via the SB - at the same time. And it's good enough to play speech.
  • Stereo via OPL3 (Adlib) or SB Pro (SB) but, due to lack of info about the SB mixer chip, the SB version will not play stereo on any card newer than an SB Pro.
  • Option to turn off sprite collision to make Impossible Mission a bit more playable (but it still doesn't emulate very well).
  • Option to switch off the border.
  • Bugfix : Golvellius now works.
  • Bugfix : Options via command line or INI file to slow down the access to the OPL3 chip to solve the problem that some soundcards were having.
This was the emu that got me into emulation, and I'll always have a soft spot for it, even if is has since been surpassed by BrSMS and Meka. Those with slow computers might still want to give it a shot, as I remember it working quite well on my 486. Get it at what's left of the homepage. Thanks to Chris for the news.

Well I noticed on a thread on the iGBA messageboard that iki posted a movie of the emu running the famed Yoshi's Story demo that Nintendo used to show off the GBA hardware. It looks to run great, with a few glitches. What's more, iki says that the new version should come this weelend. So if you're jonesing for some GBA action and can't wait until launch, keep an eye on iki's page.
