Reiginsei Power Stone 2 VMS Hack
(posted by Reiginsei - 12:34)

GameFAQs has posted another Dreamcast VMS hack for the imported game, Power Stone 2. While this isn't a real necessity like the MvsC2 hack, it's still a nice addition and saves you some work. Even though all characters are obtainable by playing the game, he states that "there just might be some rare items that can't be found anywhere", so in other words, all items available in the game can be purchased from the shop with the hack.

  • Reiginsei Dragon Ball Z 3 - Ultimate Menace Traslation Released
    (posted by Reiginsei - 15:42)

Kitsune Sniper has released his complete (well, as complete as he can get it) English translation of Dragon Ball Z 3 for the SNES. This translation was done using the French ROM instead of the Japanese ROM, so in other words, you need the French ROM to use the patch (of course). The patch translates all the dialoge, but it doesn't translate the menus. Don't worry, it's easy to figure out. Visit the home page below to pick up your copy of the patch.

Thanks again to the site endorsed by donut-eating romhackers all over the world, Whirlpool, for the news.

    LrdEFN A New Jaguar Emulator?
    (posted by LrdEFN - 22:33)

It seems that there have been some rumors that Emu Jag, a Jaguar emulator, was to be released today. Well, unfortunately, those rumors were false. There will NOT be a release today, unfortunately. What was the source of these rumors? Well, according to EmuManiac, one of his former staffers decided to go out telling everybody that there was going to be a release today. What a shame. I really can't believe a former staffer would sink so low, but not to sound depressing, I'm sure it won't be long until it is released, but remember, I'm not saying it's gonna be released soon, so don't start rumors and blame it on me! =P

Special thanks to Duncan3399 for telling me to go check out the EmuJag page on IRC, but unfortunately when I arrived it was updated with the sad news.. =(

Looks like the Genesis emu scene isn't quite dead afterall. Bart Trzynadlowski has just informed me of a new release of his Genesis emulator, Genital. The most important new feature in this version is that it supports Z80 emulation via the RAZE core. This has caused a major compatibility increase! Other new features include 320x240 ModeX resolution, Genecyst-compatible save states, an interactive debugger, and many improvements to the VDP emulation. Genital is quickly becoming a very nice Genesis emulator for DOS.

    TiBOne System 16 News
    (posted by TiBOne - 11:52)

The dead arcade emulator System16, seems to be not so dead, a new team of coders has taken the last public source of the emulator and has started to update it again, no new version has been released to, but here is what they have to say :

Hey people, well, after a weekend in our computer room at college plus 300 bottles of coke we finally have some goodies for you: Turbo Outrun is decrypted and running 100% perfect on current System 16 emu. No changes (well, the support) have to be made to the emu. Afterburner I+II are both running and playable, but a few bugs keep it from being perfect. Nothing to worry, after some hours of sleep we'll get back to work.

A VERY tired Cisco signing off. If you want to do me a favor and give some credit to the one person who made this all possible (did u EVER hear something like that about a teacher ;) then please drop a greeting line for Mr Schaeffer!

Seems great! I hope to see a release soon. For more info visit VGN. Thanks to VGN for the news.

    uzplayer Genesis Power Hits 100!
    (posted by uzplayer - 23:31)

Genesis Power has hit it's 100th Genesis Rom release! From the email:

26 April 2000 - Finally, after all the hype, now is the time for release #100. Actually, considering that we have released 45 32x ROMs, this is really our 145th release, but that is such an awkward number to have a celebration over. Perhaps when we get to release #155 we will have a celebration for what is really release #200...then again,
we may have ridden off into the internet sunset by then.

What started all this was when Snorter wandered into a Toys R Us and found a pile of six 32x games for $2 each. Figuring he wouldn't burn too much cash if he managed to turn them into doorstops, he took a few of them apart and dumped a them by desoldering the ROM chips and using an EPROM burner. Realizing that was a terribly slow process and a pain in the butt to do, he built a little Genesis ROM dumper (see FAQ for precious few details - basically it was a terribly slow process and a pain in the butt to get working, but once it worked it worked well). A few of those 32x ROMs were released by dps (the SNES guru). Snorter picked up the previously undumped Stargate on eBay and dumped that, releasing it as Genesis Release #1 on Zoop's SMS Power site. After discovering a few local Funcoland's, lots of dumps followed and the main Genesis Power site (with a design ripped off of SMS Power) was started, and
the rest is Internet nanohistory. Who knows how long we will keep this up, but with the current number of carts we have dumped we can continue the present release rate for several years."

So what's the release? It's none other then Out Of This
World (U). Check it out at the link below. Congratulations and thanks goes out to Snorter for the information.

Roni JNes page updated, with WIP information!
    (posted by Roni - 11:56)

This is good news to me, that JNes is still in active developement. This has got to be the easiest to use emu out there... and a good one at that. Here is Jabo's update:

"Well its been quite a few months since I last updated the page, tried to answer things on the message board etc. Anyway, there has been lots of internal changes in Jnes over the last few months, lots of things rewritten, lots of things fixed. Overall this means Jnes is easier to maintain than it was before because a lot of thing were in assembly which was unecessary and really annoying, and as a result lots of things are more structured.

The cpu core is still in well optimized assembly, the ppu has undergone a massive rewrite, which is nearing completion in the next couple of weeks I hope. I also want to get to work on a game or two that have bugs, and give Castlevania 3 US (mmc5) another shot. After that there are still a few more things I want to rewrite and study.

Unfortunately I won't have that much free time this summer to make releases due to work and commitments to other projects. I will post more details here, and try for later this year because the next version so far fixes lots of things people asked for.
    "

thanks to vgn for the news.

    uzplayer More on the editorial
    (posted by uzplayer - 23:35)

Quite a few people have written in regarding the latest emu-editorial rant that was posted earlier today.

I would like to explain the actions that have been done. Recently, I have seen more bad things happen in emulation in the past few weeks then ever before. Sites throwing hate towards each other, rants about hosting, and much much more. I felt that it centered around one person in emulation. This is why I wrote that editorial.

Although after I wrote the editorial and posted it, I felt clarity, I felt like I have finally got all the opinions I been holding to myself for a long time about the direction that emulation is going. It was the first time in over 6 months that I was able to refocus on my goals for Emucamp, Gamers Uplink as well as the other sites I am planning.

Yet I now find myself a robot of the emulation community/scene where everyone seems to be telling me what to do, what to post, and how to post it. I cant get my opinions out on pretty much anything anymore. Standards to be upheld.

This site has, always, and will forever be about the people. Sites that come into the community, new emu software and utilites, roms, and more. So if the people dont want to read the truth of politics behind the emulation community, then so be it. The editorial has been deleted and replaced with a short paragraph on emu-bunnies. It's stupid, but you'll get the idea once you read it.

I wont be issuing an apology for the editorial because I mean every single word of it, however I will say this. Emucamp is about emulation news, information, and soon emulation reviews. That's what we do best, and that's what we will continue to do.

Emu Manic, the author of Emu Jag, the German Atari Jaguar emu, has e-mailed Vintage Gaming Network about the progress of the emu. He says the project was started in January, is being coded in MSVC++, has ROM Loading well under way, but no audio visual response yet, and the project is slowing down due to a lack of free time. In case you didn't know, the Jaguar was a 64-bit system created by Atari that claimed little acclaim and even fewer sales. The system is currently unemulated, but several ones are all racing to the finish, including Jagbag and the Jagulator, written by none other than Realityman of UltraHLE fame, as well as the emu mentioned in this post.

    - Added some stuff to the rom loading dialog.
    - Added Next/Prev to NSF player.
    - Minor speed improvements.

    Reiginsei NesToy32 1.0!
    (posted by Reiginsei - 12:54)

DigiToxin has unveiled a new Win32 friendly version of his awesome NES ROM organizer! (No GUI yet, just give it time) Here's what's new

    - NesToy has been rewritten as a 32-bit console application and should run fine in Windows 9x/NT/2000. You should also notice a nice speed increase and I will now be able to add zip support and possibly a GUI in the future.
    - Removed the command line option from NESTOY.CFG. This may return in a later version.
    - Added NO_BACKUP to NESTOY.CFG. Has the same effect as the -nobackup command line parameter when set to TRUE.
    - Added JOLIET to nestoy.cfg. When set to TRUE, any game titles over 64 characters long will automatically use their short name. This should help avoid any problems with burning the ROMs to a CD as the joliet standard limits file names to 64 characters. This feature is not perfected yet.
    - Missing file now defaults to NESMISS.TXT instead of MISSING.TXT.
    - Default options for -ren and -missing set in nestoy.cfg now work correctly when -doall is used.

NesToy is my organizer of choice (no offense Cowering ^_^) and I suggest you check it out to. Visit the homepage below to download this fine utility.

On the page you'll find misc. info on the system, some pictures of the different games, overlays plus some more stuff. The site is run by a good friend of mine, and all-around great guy, Neo-Link (if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have my SegaCD right now ^_^). If you like the Jaguar, I suggest checking his site out right now.

    uzplayer Bleem! E3 Update
    (posted by uzplayer - 13:08)

Bleem! the company who has singlehandedly won case after case against Sony, is announcing a new product at the E3. Gamers Voice has gotten some information regarding what they're planning:

"We spoke with bleem! LLC's PR firm a few minutes ago and have learned that not only will they have their own booth at the show, but they will be announcing a brand new product the first day of the show. The only thing they will reveal at this time is that it IS a new psuedo-emulator/game engine product.

As you recall, their initial self-titled product bleem! ran most Playstation games on the PC. This enabled the games to take advantage of the superior hardware and memory of most PCs and actually made the games look and run better. Of course, some titles wouldn't run either. Sony got in a little hissy about this and took them to court, but bleem! won out as they didn't violate any copyright laws."

I took the liberty of calling the Bleem! PR company as well, and they are definitely tight-lipped about it. Stay tuned to Emucamp as we will have more information on this new product as it becomes available.

    (posted by uzplayer - 12:29)

Project Hyperion a Sega Saturn emulator has been updated. Here's a quote:

"I took a break from CD stuff last night and worked on a Saturn demo someone mentioned to me. It turned out this used some SH-2 DMA at the beginning, so I got that working. Unfortunately it now branches to $00000000 at some point and dies. I also spent some time on the system menus available outside of the CD player and got those mostly working (they aren't visually perfect yet however)."

    Reiginsei Having problems patching Tenchi?
    (posted by Reiginsei - 17:21)

Seems there are some Tenchi Muyo ROMs out there that do not like to be patched. Me and a friend had this problem yesterday and I thought I'd tell y'all how we fixed our roms (think of this as a public service announcement) ^_^ If your rom stalls in ZSNES (or crashes it for that matter) or if it doesn't play at all in SNES9x after it is patched, this is most likely the problem. Your ROM has no header, and it must have one for a patch to work. The solution is to add one using SNEStool. All you have to do is go to Add Header in SNEStool, select your unpatched Tenchi ROM and when it asks if it is a HiROM, choose Yes, and when it asks if you want to Diable Static RAM choose Yes again. Now you're all set, patch the ROM and play this fine translation. You can get SNEStool from Zophar's Domain utilities section. Thanks to SandyPup for this valuable info.

    drewbert MAME WIP Updated
    (posted by drewbert - 06:43)

The MAME Work In Progress page has been updated with plenty of new entries(6 since we last reported:

18th April 2000: Martin Buchholz sent in a Poly-Play driver (the only arcade machine ever produced in GDR, the former East Germany) with thanks to Jürgen Oppermann, Volker Hann and the Videogame Museum in Berlin (especially to Jan-Ole Christian) - without them, the driver would not have been reality. Phil Stroffolino fixed some tilemap bugs and he fixed Kyros' graphics decoding. Jürgen Buchmüller added some extra information to -listinfo output.

17th April 2000: Zsolt Vasvari did some cleanups to the Cinematronics driver, fixed a 16-bit bug in the artwork functions and he also fixed a Donkey Kong graphics bug. Bryan McPhail added the world romset to Super Burger Time.

16th April 2000: Ernesto Corvi updated the K053260 ADPCM decoding to use a better algorithm, and the sound is much better. Aaron Giles fixed some cpunum_get_* functions' bugs.

15th April 2000: Brad Oliver sent in a preliminary cheat system update, making it work much better and being asynchronous (doesn't stop the emulation), but it's not completely ready yet.

14th April 2000: Peter Trauner fixed a profiler crash.

13th April 2000: Keith Wilkins fixed PLX/PLY handling in the 65c02 emulation. Zsolt Vasvari added Sheriff to the 8080bw driver.

12th April 2000: Bryan McPhail fixed some bugs in SNK68 and Tumblepop and Super Burger Time drivers.

    uzplayer FeMAME Ver 2.01 Released
    (posted by uzplayer - 00:16)

FeMAME Ver 2.01 has been released. Here's what's new:

o Added AUTO support for 16bit Colour. You can now let MAME decide, or force 8 or 16bit depending on your tastes.
o Added support for Gravis GrIP and Gravis GrIP (constrained).
o Finally added the most-requested feature of these last few months - support for Hotrod and Hotrod SE joysticks. Although they're called differently from the command line, they're included in the standard Joystick menu in FEMAME.
o Added support for -triplebuffer and -notriplebuffer, as requested by various people lately.
o Added support for -translucency and -notranslucency, just to finish off the vector options.
o Renamed "16bit Col" to "Col.Depth" and changed the options from "AUTO, YES, NO" to "AUTO, 16bit, 8bit". No actual changes to the underlying code, it's just a cosmetic thing - your settings from the old version will be
    retained.
o And finally - I got fed up of the beta cycle. Not many problems were being reported so I renumbered this release to 2.01.

You can check it out at the link below. Thanks to EmuHQ for the information.
