Zoop I, Robot VRML models
(posted by Zoop - 08:02)

John Manfreda, author of the old and first I, Robot emulator, has managed to extract models from the game into VRML format.

Quoting from the homepage: "I, Robot was a milestone in video game history -- it was the first video game to rasterize 3-D polygons in real-time. Not the wire-frame models mind you, but real solid 3D objects. The game is a testifies to the hardware and software inginuity present at Atari in the early 80's."

If you're curious about toying with the models, and your web navigator supports VRML, be sure to give it a check!

Frogacuda RIP EmuViews
(posted by Frogacuda - 14:17)

EmuViews, one of the best, and oldest emulation news sites still around, has been layed to rest, by it's maintainer and proprietor JoseQ. This is the result of repeated attacks of a particular individual, who has been masking his IP, impersonaing JoseQ, and flooding the boards with offensive (and largely incohearant) posts. Unable to find a good way to deal with this right now, JoseQ has decided to close EmuViews.com. He is undecided as to wether or not it will ever re-open. While this seems like an extreme course of action, I don't think we can fault JoseQ for what he's done.

I'd just like to go on record as saying that things like this make me sick. JoseQ is one of the few people I've known in this scene who's always stayed clean of dirty site politics, and flame wars, and always been good and decent to just about everyone (even those who don't deserve it). The fact that anyone would deliberately want to sabotage him is just repulsive. It's really to disheartening to see a scene that was once about fun, to have come to this.

If you'd like to go stare at the abyss where EmuViews once was, follow the link below.

Zoop ZSnes does Pilot Wings!
(posted by Zoop - 09:31)

ZSnes homepage has been updated with pictures of Pilot Wings (Super Nintendo) running for the first time through emulation, with the correct pseudo-3d environment. Despite being one of the first game released for the system(it was released on the 21th December 1990), its custom math chipset was previously a problem for emulator authors. Now that the project is Opensource, it is safe expecting a new version of ZSnes in the following weeks!

fixo Blade64 Work-in-Progress 3
(posted by fixo - 16:02)

Blade64, a new promising Nintendo64 emulator for Windows, had it's third WIP released and here's what's new:

  • Bade no longer requires PathPicker.dll, I changed this due to lack of compatability with other OS's It now uses windows standard "Browse For Folder".
  • Started to implement Save features. As this is what you have requested along with Plugin support :)
  • Blade64 name change no longer "Blade64 v1.0.0 (WIP X)" now it's just "Blade64 (WIP X)".
  • Still working on Plugin specs.
  • Implementing "Expansion Pack" support for TWINE, Road Rash etc.
  • Refresh added to file menu so if new roms are added to your roms folder after opening blade it will then re-create the list view so their is no need to exit from Blade.
  • Blade now checks for DX8 sorry but some plugins require DX8 to work (TR64 Input Plugin).
  • WIP 3 code is still a little buggy so if any errors found please e-mail me so I can correct the problem ASAP.
Click the link below to visit it's homepage for the download, compatibility list and a nice FAQ.

Lopantu Site Based On A Message Board
(posted by Lopantu - 02:15)

Here is a novel idea - Expanding on the idea of letting visitors post news themselves (used by such sites as Emuforce) and posting comments about the news (used by such sites as Emuviews), this site lets you do both, as it is entirely a message board.

It is a neat idea, and it is incorporated nicely - it keeps the site neat, with the forum topics being the headlines, which you can click on to see the whole news, or you can just click on the WinZip icon to download the program you want right from the main page.

fixo Raine 0.31 DOS version
(posted by fixo - 19:30)

A new version of RAINE, a fine multi-arcade emulator, has been updated to version v0.31. Here's the introduction from what's new:

This release adds mostly new graphic functions to allow almost every driver to support 16bpp/rotation. It was done mainly to see if f3 games would benefit from it. Apparently : not that much, except maybe for popnpop ?. Anyway with this, and automatic rom loading, adding new drivers should be easier now. Since it's quiet now, and we have also included many fixes and improvements, time was good to make a release.
For more details on this release and of course the download, head over to the official page and enjoy this early Easter gift!

    Roni A sad day.
    (posted by Roni - 23:27)

I'd like to post a moment of rememberence for Dave and all the programs he has created. As of today, Final Burn, the infamous CPS2 emulator has been discontinued. From a little DOS emu called DTMNT, to DGen to Final Burn; Dave has created some very good programs and I salute him for this. His programming has brought back some great memories for me. The funny thing is, I thought Afterburner I & II was the best part of Final Burn, not CPS2 stuff. I wish it didn't come to this, but with the current state of people in emulation, it didn't surprise me in the end. Dave has contributed all his information from Final Burn to MAME. A few reactions to this news post came in, one of them was written by Zach of ZTNet and it's basically another session of mails going back and forward between an angry customer ... and the bleem! chief.
