Lycia UltraHLE News
(posted by Lycia - 19:48)

The UltraHLE site has been updated with some really cool news. RealityMan has posted some news regarding the progress of UltraHLE and gives us other information. In addition to this, jandaman, the webmaster of the site, has uploaded a few screenshots. Here's what RealityMan had to say:

So, its been a while since my last update so I thought I would do a quick update before I disappear into the ether once more ;)
Anyway, those of you who know me personally will know the reasons why I haven't been active publically over recent months (I won't elaborate here) and although development has been slow it has not been fruitless. The OpenGL core is now working well with both my TNT2 and Voodoo3 cards so I have moved the project on to the next stage, improving compatibility. Many of the roms which currently fail with UltraHLE v1.0.0 have common problems which relate, more often than not, to low level compatibility (or lack of I should say). These are being addressed one by one and once non-working roms are starting to produce some encouraging results. Aside from compatibility, the other area to be addressed now is improving the HLE engine. I am currently working on a redesign to include all the latest functions and microcode used in newer roms. I will update very soon with some more information. - RealityMan -
Check out the site for the real deal. :)

Frogacuda Dboy release translation.
(posted by Frogacuda - 19:39)

VGN, prompt as ever, has released a preliminary translation of the updates for the latest release of Dboy. Here's what's new for .59z:

did some background fix that repaired an error in Metal Gear GBC
worked on the PCM via the PSG engine more
-rtssave (-rs) real time save commandline op added
something about -sgb (super gmeboy support)
improved the PSG sound emulation via the PCM support

The Super Gameboy part seems a bit hazy, so we'll wait and see if this gets cleared up. Thanx to Tuxedo Mask and VGN for the news/trans.

Railmaster UltraHLE controller driver update / SPO256-AL2 IC needed
(posted by Railmaster - 18:18)

And you guys thought you got rid of me!
First off, the N64 controller to USB adapter has some updated drivers again. Not really new, but if you got this you might wanna download them. Link on the UltraHLE page.

Next, I have begun an emulation project of my own. The SPO256-AL2 (also seen SPO256-2AL sometimes) was a chip released in the early 80s which gave some arcade games and systems the ability to speak. Please note this is *NOT* the same as the CTS256-2AL, for which I already have.

You may remember this voice from the Hero 1 line of robots from Heathkit. For my emulation product, I need to extract the allaphone roms from this chip. Back in the 80s this cost around $5 a chip. Today, it has been discontinued. I have found some sources of this chip, but those individuals choose to use monopolistic views to charge an overwhelming amount for this chip. It is also availble in some INTELLIVOICE VOICE SYTHESIS MODULES. If you have any of this old crap in your garage, as I'm sure some of you do, please ship it to me - some compensation pending, of course.

Frogacuda A black day for Amiga fans...
(posted by Frogacuda - 13:53)

Bad news for Amiga emu fans. Amiga Inc. is now seeking to take an active role in battling copyright and trademark infringment. Here's a clip from what they had to say (read the rest at the link below):

One critical area that needs to be addressed right now today is the Amiga name, trademarks, logos, and intellectual properties. Many of you have sent me notes asking us to take action against those who are making illegal copies of our software, using our name without permission, and the distributing our intellectual property without our knowledge and consent.

While this might seem negative for many, it is imperative that Amiga properly and legally defend our trademarks and intellectual property. To be blunt and to the point, if you are using the Amiga name, Amiga logos, or distributing our intellectual property without a license, you must cease and desist these actions immediately. Amiga Incorporated owns the aforementioned items and all rights contained therein.

This is very unexpected and definitely not good. The fallout of this announcement has yet to be seen, but Amiga fans eveywhere should brace themselves.

Thanks to EmuHQ for the news.

Lycia Basilisk II V0.8 build 125
(posted by Lycia - 08:20)

Basilisk, a MacIntosh emulator for Win9x/00, has been updated to build 125. Here's a list of what's new:

  • New "SMP" GUI page to define thread affinity masks. An affinity mask determines on which CPU's a process or a thread is allowed to run on a system equiped with multiple CPUs. If you have any speed/stability problems on a SMP system, you may want to adjust these settings. Windows 9x supports only one CPU.
  • FPU denormalization code was accidentally left out, causing the scroll bars not working under MacOS 8.x with certain ROMs (thanks, Sérgio).
  • Minor fixes in FPU rounding mode handling.
  • Minor improvements in FPU quotient byte handling.
Check out this emulator if you're a Windows user wanting to give the MacIntosh a shot. This emulator is very good as I've seen it in action on my brothers computer.

    Frogacuda Dboy 0.59I translation.
    (posted by Frogacuda - 15:54)

VGN has posted a translation of what's new for DBOY 0.59. Here's what they said:

    V0.59 invisible:

Improved PSG (it sounds much better now, but still not perfect)
Changed config file from DBOY.CFG to DBOY.DEF rename or refer it to use

    V0.59higher:
    adopted SEAL
Added PSG emulation using PCM with SEAL add (-sound 2) option to activate it (however still imperfect on quality)

Personally this all confuses me, because I thought DBOY was supposed to be dead, but I'm not about to argue. SEAL is an audio library used by many emulators such as MAME, System 16, fMXS, etc. It should benefit the sound greatly as Dboy's sound was less than accuartate
Thanks again to VGN for the news, and to kamo'n for the trans.

    Lycia RAINE Site Update
    (posted by Lycia - 09:55)

The Raine site has been updated with something pretty cool. No, the emulator isn't back, but the site does contain this message:

While raine itself has fallen prey to a changing attitude towards emulation, we still host some high quality emulation sites under our domain. If you have questions or ideas regarding this domain, or what we should work on now raine is dead, feel free to send an email. Bear in mind that we will probably steer clear of any arcade emulator ideas.
Also, I won't mention it here, but if you'll also highlight the extreme left side of the site, you'll notice something pretty amusing. I don't know if its been there all along, but regardless. Its funny. :)

    Lycia Basilisk II build 124
    (posted by Lycia - 14:55)

Basilisk II, a MacIntosh emulator, has been updated to build 124. Here's a list of what's new:

    • Rewritten the FPU, now uses 10-byte (64-bit mantissa) floating point code, partially in assembly. I'm not aware of any significant FPU bugs anymore.
    • The FPU is now enabled by default, since it seems to be working fine.
    • "Get hardware volume" (for audio beeps) is now enabled by default.
    • More than a hundred (most frequently used) CPU opcodes written in assembly (NT/Win2k version only). Optimized for CPUs PII or better.
    • Fixed a trace flag bug that caused CodeWarrior single-stepping not working.
    • Fixed a bug in long division remainder sign bit handling. The bug caused some DateTimeUtils functions to fail.
    • A new system menu command to temporarily remove the ROM write protection. NT version only (I don't expect this to be useful to anybody else but me)
    • Just for fun: startup sound for those 1MB ROMs that have the sound embedded in uncompressed form. Enabled by default (if audio is enabled), can be disabled in GUI audio page. Saves the sound in a file named as "startup_XXXXXXXX.wav", where XXXXXXXX is the ROM file checksum. This allows you to replace the sound file. Please don't send any bug reports related to startup sounds.
    • An attempt to make the cursor less jumpy when using the alternate mouse emulation mode.
    • Some new "undocumented" options:
      • Disable maximize gadget:
        • BasiliskII.ini [GUI] Disable Maximize=1
      • Run multiple copies of BasiliskII simultaneously:
        • BasiliskII.ini [Debug] allow_multiple_instances=1
    • Removed some unused code.
    • There is a problem in handling file names longer than 31 characters with the external file system (My Computer). Shorten the file names if you have to.

Head on over to the site to pick up this fine emulator.

Lycia bwb From EmulationHQ Lays the Law Down
    (posted by Lycia - 07:47)

Holy crap! bwb from EmulationHQ has just posted what could be the longest post in history! He basically voices a ton of opinions and some facts, too. I believe everything he says and I would go so far to say that he's right 100%.

I personally hope that emulation doesn't die, and I hope that eventually we'll see CPS2 fully emulated, and possibly a nice Dreamcast emulator. My opinion on Next Generation emulation is that I believe that new systems SHOULD have a chance to get out to the public and have a "life" before coders and dev'ers attack the system. Based on this opinion of mine, you can tell that I'm Anti-Next Generation emulation. I post the stuff that I post about it because I'm supposed to maintain an unbiased opinion when posting about them.

At any rate, thats my two cents.

    Stay tuned!
