    Roni Console Classix Goes Live!
    (posted by Roni - 22:36)

Console Classix, the next generation in legal emulation, has officially opened it's doors today for business. If you are unaware of Console Classix (C2) they have developed a legal way for others to play their old NES favorites on a specialized version of nester for Windows. Pretty much they have just as good of a selection as Blockbuster did back in the day, only you don't have to leave home to rent your favorite NES games anymore ;)

With the newest addition of thier software now dubbed Console Classix Client they have officially opened thier doors. At 6:00pm tonight (a few hours ago here) they started the service as a fully functional Nintendo game rental service. At $5.49 per month you can rent any NES game they have, as long as it's in stock anyway. Just like going to the video store (are we emulating real life here ;) The longer of a membership you sign up for the bigger discount you get, they even have a system of referals which in turn could make you get away with paying nothing for the service!

Now I must say, I have used the software and I find it is a perfectly legal and easy to use service, you open it up and pick a game and rent it. It's as easy as ever and you don't have to worry about having pirated material on your computer because the ROM file is NOT permanently stored on your filesystem.

All in all if you've been searching for the legal way to emulate without playing all those useless public domain ROMs then this is your chance, go have some fun!

    Zoop Wonderswan Emulator!
    (posted by Zoop - 03:49)

Dox has released today the first version of Cygne, his Wonderswan emulator, being the first one to play commercial games! For those who doesn't know about Wonderswan, it is Bandai handheld console and was released in Japan a few years ago. This year, Bandai released the color version of it (which is not yet emulated). With well known games like Rockman (Megaman) or Puzzle Bobble, but also a bunch of games not exported outside of Japan, it is worth trying the emulator if you're a curious player and never played Wonderswan.

Thanks to Ne7 for the news!

Bernd Huge AMI Sector One update
    (posted by Bernd - 17:57)

Today there is a huge update on AMI Sector One: Download the biggest legal and licensed Amiga game which is available on the Internet: It is called The Case of the Cautious Condor (65 MB to download!). This real-time adventure was released in 1991 for the Amiga CDTV. It had wonderful graphics and sounds and got the title 'Game of the Year' in Japan. Of course many other new games like Blood 'n' Bullets, Slap 'n' Tickle, Bill etc. can be downloaded.
In the apps section there are now the Amiga programs highlights Genesis - The Third Day (fractal landscapes) and Deluxe Music 2.0 (notation tool).
Also the Amiga group Wanted Team cooperated with us: They have now Internet pages on ASO which contain players, Amiga tunes and other interesting stuff. And of course this update features new coverscans.
Finally the Amiga Games Compendium was updated with more than 1100 Amiga games entries. AMI Sector One has it all.

    Zoop Game Derby
    (posted by Zoop - 08:04)

"Remy Saville and Luke Hetherington (AKA Remy, Luke & Associates) have created a game for the classic gaming community called Game Derby. In Game Derby two players battle each other by answering multiple choice questions about video game trivia (classic arcade, video game history, imports, consoles, computers, and video game pop culture) or by competing in Top Secret Robots. Top Secret Robots is a split screen puzzle shooter best described as a mix between Twin Bee and Twinkle Star Sprites."

I download and tried the game myself, and must say I was pretty impressed. The graphics and design are excellent, and the few questions I was able to see offered great answers with history facts and explanation. I can only recommend you to support the authors of this software after trying out the demo version, it worth the 20$, really!

    Roni Console Classix
    (posted by Roni - 02:54)

This is a subject of which I touched on the other day, in a post I deleted. Since then I have had many converations with the webmaster of this site. I have concluded a few various things of which I felt I should re-post a new statement reguarding the site.

I am now fully aware and would like to spread the word that Console Classix is a legal and legit website. You can rent games by paying a charge; just like the video store. Currently, you can rent Nintendo games online and play them through a modified version of nester which only allows you to play games that they have in stock. They do claim to have these games in their ownership and to have dumped copies of the ROMs themselves. In using this site, you technically rent a game and play it on nester. If a game is not in stock, you simply cannot rent it, meaning you can not play it.

This is a step taken toward a legal way to let people use emulators without the worry of legal trouble. I for one do agree something like this is the way emulation should be going and would like to encourage people to support their cause. I've been involved in emulation for years now and this is the first step I've seen taken with the law in mind and I think this is a good new beginning.

Console Classix has a idea that might help make emulation into emulation again instead of the current emulation = warez tag applied to this scene. So please show your support and see where this can go.

    Roni Xega v0.06 released!
    (posted by Roni - 15:08)

WOW!! I just downloaded this brand spanking new emu from it's page (which we host here on emucamp) and I must admit it has the BEST sound quality of any genesis emu I have ever heard. Xega is for Windows/Direct-X 8 and plays games great for a first release. And if your wondering about the sound, try your copy of Streets of Rage 2 (or Bare Knuckle 2 for you out of USAers) and tell me if you think that the voices sound next to perfect in this emu. It definately is the best if EVER heard, and I own a Genesis so I can prove it ;)

Currently there is another auction going on the same level: Ultima Trilogy 1-3 which is not that rare but still someone is willing to pay that much. Really cheap are Seven Cities of Gold (200DM!) and Last Ninja Special Pack (90DM) compared. For non-Germans: 1DM = app. 0.85 Euro, 0.33 British Pounds.
