rOuGh No more free retro 8bit games for PCs???
(posted by rOuGh - 23:20)

I just read on Retrospec that John Dow author of PC remakes of ultra mega classics as Attack of the Mutant Camels, Pssst and Cookie intends stop coding his games for the public for being fed up with some people whining for more and more free games. If you appreciate his great work and want to tell John about it or even better donate him some cash (if you got some, unlike me :) then let him know via their guestbook (down below on the page). Mind! He was working on titles as Atic Atac, Fred and Zub for your Primitive Computer!

rOuGh Atari XL/XE still alive.
(posted by rOuGh - 23:04)

Ever heard of the Atari XL/XE? A machine which came up in the times of C64 and was quite similar to program but technically a bit better. For usual reasons as worse advertising, C64 being already market leader and some bad luck it wasn't the hoped success. Nowadays there is still games being released for this machine, especially Poland is active where it's rather common. Click on Mr Bacardi's site for some information about a platformer Mr. Proper" and a Doom (!) adaption.

fixo Meka 0.58c
(posted by fixo - 14:56)

Today Zoop released v0.58c of Meka, a rather fabulous Sega Master System / Game Gear (and lesser known Sega systems that is) emulator for DOS. Here's the changes in this release:

  • Fixed the missing soundcard selection menu in some cases
  • Added printing of SDSC Header informations when found. The SDSC Header has been defined and created by the SMS Power developement team (based on Eric Quinn's idea) for homebrewn programs
  • Drawn Latin-Extended characters (Unicode 0080-00FF) in the big font. Accents are now usable everywhere in MEKA. Be sure to use accents from the Latin-Extended table (usually used by Windows programs, not DOS ones)
  • Added Spanish messages translations (by Antonio J. Bazalo)
  • Added Portuguˆs messages translations (by Rodrigo C. Rubio)
  • Added "WIP" (Work In Progress) parameter in language definition, to disable warnings and informations when the language is uncomplete
  • Squashed one very minor flag bug in the browser when a ROM had an number after a space, at the end of its filename
Head over to the MEKA page for the download.

fixo MAME v0.53
(posted by fixo - 22:27)

MAME, the mother of arcade emulation is back once again with a new release. They're up to v0.53 which might look strange and it is: they have abandoned the "beta" numbering scheme, which "was becoming pointless". The current version is 0.53 because 0.36 (the last "non-beta" release) + .16
(the number of "beta" releases since then) = 0.52. To have an overview of all the changes regarding graphics, sound and drivers, please visit the official page and while there, grab the download and play!

With "Paradox Software" and "Hartwerk" there are another two companies which allowed us free distribution of their Amiga software on our website AMI Sector One. Some of the programs of these firms you can now legally download are "ST-Protector", "War Zone" and the translation program "Translate It". Also there is Ed Scio's futuristic flight simulation "Armour-Geddon". Many interesting Public Domain games and new Emerald Mine clones complete this small summer update.

fixo Sintendo Beta v0.10
(posted by fixo - 03:54)

A new beta of Sintendo, the SNES emulator for Dreamcast, has been made available for the public. If you head over to the official Sintendo page and read the long and interesting post (btw the project started about 1 year ago), you see that author Sin stresses this release could be buggy and all that. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure many Dreamcast fans are happy enough anyway just because of the fact this project is still going so check and try.
