Sega 16-bit Project - Filelist Released!
(posted by Chris - 13:10)

Finally, it's here! The long awaited Sega Mega Drive/Genesis list. Now counting 932 files in total, without aliases, demos, etc. Only commercial released (and unreleased) games.

Also included in this archive is the aka-list by Eidolon with some additions by myself. If you believe to have something that is _not_ on our list, please check it against the "also known as" list first. In case it isn't there, contact me and we'll arrang e something. Our goal is still to compile a complete list of Sega 16-bit software (at least, as close as we can get).

Btw, don't ask for files! Yes, we plan to upload rare ROM's in the future (if possible), but we won't send your single files. If you have something rare to contribute, it's always possible to arrange something, of course.

Now, feel free to grab the list at the link below :)

Comment on Zophar's
(posted by Chris - 17:23)

Ok, ok, now we all know it. Zophar believed and so did many readers, including me. Yes, we believed that he would come up with something so great today... and now? Sure, the new site design looks good. And yes, it's nice to see Bloodlust Software returnin g - too bad, it's without Sardu, author of GeneCyst, Nesticle & Callus. I admit, I'm a little disappointed. I did expect more. Well, it's always the same thing, if people "hype" something that much.

To make it clear, I really like Zophar's Domain for being a great emusite. But next time, Zophar, please make sure it's something really, really great, before you hype things again. Probably the best thing today is, that Sam aka The Scribe released a new version of his excellence Genesis/Mega Drive lists :) He devoted it to Zophar's 3th birthday.

A tip that did not make it into the tip sheet, however I thought it would be important. Some sites on the Internet have recently stated that at a gathering for a non-profit organization, Sega Enterprises Chairman Isao Okawa was mistranslated stating that they would be getting out of the hardware business. This in fact is not true as this IGN news article clears it up. Read it at the link below. Thanks to Retrogames for the information.

MAME 0.36 Beta 9.1
(posted by Zoop - 16:26)

Beta 9 then 9.1 of MAME 0.36 were released this week-end. The first update (Beta 9) add supports for seven new games including, but not limited to Kick Off and KiKi KaiKai (also emulated in Raine). The CPU core used in the Midway games such as Mort al Kombat or Narc was also heavily optimised so that the games should now run quite nicely on a high-end configuration. It finally also introduces some kind of palette handling changes that would only affect developers. The second update (Beta 9.1) is min or as it only fixes a bug in the Midway games and adds changes to the MAME license in response to some recent abuses.

SNES
(posted by uzplayer - 11:21)

ZSNES Ver. 0.985 has been released. Here's the long list of what's new:

o Added some more speedups to the SA-1
o SA-1: Fixed a branch problem with the BRL instruction
o Implemented Save Ram support into netplay. Thanks to The Minder for help testing this!
o Added a hack to get Mario Paint trainered rom with the trainer removed to work with the snes mouse instead of the keyboard/joystick
o Prevented Joystick Keys/Buttons to be selected as the diagonal keys in the GUI
o Fixed some crashing problems with the Modem Mode
o Implemented a key combination editor in the GUI
o Sped up V-Sync
o Fixed an SA-1 memory map bug! Fixes DBZ:HD.
o Added an small speed hack for DBZ:HD
o Implemented SA-1 Super MMC
o Finally, after many, many hours of hacking. Figured out what caused the odd noise sounds! So far, simulated noise is implemented since the true nature of how this noise is produced is unknown so it will sound somewhat off compared to the original sounds . There is also a slight chance that some sounds will become noise incorrectly and vice versa.
o Fixed up Pitch Modulation
o Fixed SNES Mouse/Super Scope support when Pl3/4 as Pl1/2 option is enabled
o ADSR/GAIN overhaul (Sound DSP) :
o Fixed several GAIN bugs
o Implemented Increase Bentline/Decrease Exp GAIN modes properly
o Rewrote Decay/Sustain modes in ADSR
o Fixed a restarting ADSR bug
o Removed Sound Buffering. I don't think it's worth losing the quality of the sound for a small amount of speed boost.
o Implemented an option to disable the Noise Simulation for those games that aren't working properly because of it
o Implemented Triple Buffering. You can enable this through the Video Options in the GUI. Unfortunately, Triple Buffering won't work with 2xSaI/Super Eagle engine at the moment since they rely on the previous screen for updating nor will it work properly with high resolution games in the old gfx engine. Thanks to GreenImp for patiently helping through testing!
o Implemented Full Screen Interpolation
o Implemented Cheat Code Reflector (See Guinotes.txt for details)
o Any proper VESA 2 error messages now doesn't exit the program when in the GUI but instead display the error message in a box and allows the user to continue.
Thanks to Daniel for lending me his copier which helped me hack the SNES Sound Noise/ADSR stuff!

Interesting Coincidence?
(posted by uzplayer - 15:04)

We all know that Nintendo regards emulators as illegal, however, according to this quote from IGN, it seems Nintendo is second guessing themselves:

"Here, you can play the Game Boy Pokémon games using your N64. Essentially, the GB Building is a software emulator that displays the action of the Game Boy game on screen in limited color, similar to a Super Game Boy. Remember
that it will only play Pokémon Blue, Red and Yellow, though.."

Needless to say, Saisatron, who is the person who sent this piece of information to us has launched a demand to Nintendo to change their faq immediately and leave emulation alone. I tend to agree with this assessment.

Read about it at the Pokemon' stadium preview at IGN listed below. Thanks to Saisatron for the information.
