    fixo ZSNES Dos/Windows v1.17
    (posted by fixo - 12:49)

A new version of one of the best Super Nintendo emulator for DOS and Windows has been released. This update clocking at v1.17 features:

    • Added slow-down key. You can configure it in Misc -> Game Keys
    • Invulnerability bug of the 3rd boss in Demon's Crest in the good checksum roms is fixed through rom mirroring I also noticed that this fix is the same as what the author of SNEeSe told me before about on some MegamanX1 roms, but I never had that rom so I never added this until now. Guess that rom is also fixed too.
    • Changed memory initialization values - Lost Viking 2 works again
    • 65816: Fixed WAI instruction timing with HIRQ's Top Gear 2 - 2 player mode works now
    • Improved IRQ re-execution timing precision
    • Starfox 2 beta now runs with sound!
    • Fixed flickering problem in Starfox 2 beta
    • Added Mode 2 16x16 tile offset per tile mode
    • (Win32) Improved the timestamps on UDP headers. This should (hopefully) solve those out of sync (where both sides see different things) problems with certain connections (ie. T1/LAN connections) in netplay
    • Win32) Added a big notice in netplay.txt. For all of you who used netplay and had poor experiences with a ping time of less than 300ms, read it! Also added a more realistic system requirements description for decent netplay in netplay.txt rather than a cpu speed estimate.
    • Changed reverse stereo method to become invisible to the sound registers in emulation
New versions are available for download at the official ZSNES page.

Zoop SG-1000 (Sega Game 1000) Paper Craft
    (posted by Zoop - 11:18)

Although not yet announced, the release data of SegaGaga for the Dreamcast could be only approaching, as the official homepage (in Japanese) is getting updated more frequently with goodies. SegaGaga is a strategy game taking place in the videogame world, and where you have to bring Sega to the top of the market. The game contains many references to old Sega systems, and even, a limited edition Visual Memory will be released (along with the game), using Master System/Megadrive colors.

So what's up with the goodies? They just posted on the site a Paper Craft of the SG-1000 (and its joypad). If you're feeling like having some innocent fun, you can download the pictures, print them, cut them and assemble them manually. Perfect occupation for an old video games fan - do it now! :-)

Bernd X-Mas Update on AMI Sector One
    (posted by Bernd - 12:38)

One day before Christmas there is another update on the famous Amiga emulation site AMI Sector One:
Today the following games were uploaded: A-Train, Adventure Construction Kit, Ambermoon, Amberstar, Black Crypt, Championship Golf, Ogre, Omega, PGA Tour Golf, Sim City 2000 (English and German), Space Rogue, Ultima III, Ultima IV, Ultima V, Bleed, Bleed 2, Galleons, Championship Baseball and the Christmas game Julgubbe.
Most of these games are real Amiga highlights and the best thing is that all these downloads are legal: Companies like Origin, Maxis, Thalion etc. have allowed us to upload these games already some time ago.
Besides there are some new tools and applications like S.A.M. Sample Synthesizer or some LSD Trainer Disks. In the music section you will find new ripped tunes of Amiga games and demos. There is also some minor new stuff in other sections.
Finally I would like to take the chance to wish all AMI Sector One visitors, fans and contributors a merry Christmas!

    Roni DreamSNES v0.9.3
    (posted by Roni - 18:16)

A new version of this nice looking Super NES emulator for the Dreamcast has been released. Here's the scoop:

This is a special Christmas release to keep you occupied over the holidays. Merry X-mas and a Happy New Year!

    Improvements over 0.9.2:

  • Converted the menus to a cosy Christmas theme.
  • Added mouse support
  • Added possibility to to interpolate mode7.
  • Speeded things up a bit. Note that it is still slow.
  • Fixed menu interlace problem.
  • Removed one of the soundtracks to reduce download size.
This is still not 1.0. Do not expect great speed.

Known bugs: Does not save to Joytech or Nexus 4M bankswitched VMUs.

  • Roni BrMSX discontinued.
    (posted by Roni - 17:47)

Disapointing news, but there is good news to come out of it also :) Here's a quote from my mail from TFH/Fony of the MEP:

"As said in MSXBR-l (MSX Brazilian List), BrMSX is oficially discontinued. There'll be a Windows/DirectX version instead. The author claims that his software isn't compatible with a large amount of sound and video boards. The message (translated) follows:

"BrMSX is oficially discontinued. In it's place, will be two new projects. The first one, to the emulequeiros (people that only uses emulators), called BrMSX-Win, for Windows and DirectX. The other one, for MSX'ers, it "BrMSX on a Chip", a hardware version of BrMSX that uses VHDL and FPGA." "

Sounds like a different course and a interesting future for the DOS native program is on the way.

Lando Quake 3 Arena Dreamcast VMU MAP3!
    (posted by Lando - 12:40)

Ok`s this off topic just a tab. I`d just finished the single player game on skill level `HURT ME` and the stress factor was high after pumping lead into Xaero for ages. I knew the not so nice VMU challenge was next and could`nt wait to find out what the cheat was. It`s was 3am and thought I`ll get this out of the way and go to bed.

1 hour later the VMU challenge was unfinished. AHhhh!

Come Sunday I still could`nt do it. I cryed.

A map had to be made at this point I did`nt have any paper to do the job. So I started work on the monster by hand with Ppaint for Amiga and many, many hours later I finished the map. I`d almost maped the whole thing before I saw the exit!

Anyways you can grab a copy of the Dreamcast VMU Callenge, Skill Level `HURT ME` from the link below. Hope to catch online some day as I need some target practice after spending so much time on this ;-)

    Zoop Meka 0.55 released!
    (posted by Zoop - 18:55)

It was a minute since I released Meka 0.55 - can't say Emucamp is not the fastest to cover news ;) Following the tradition, this version of Sega 8-bit and Colecovision emulator for DOS is available for registered users, and will be made public in a few days.

Now about the changes. This version features a revamped input system, with a graphical configuration tool and many related improvements, like the hability to play games with a mouse. Other than that, Colecovision emulation was improved, and Master System 3-D Glasses emulation was added in both software and hardware mode, the later option permitting you to connect real Sega 3-D Glasses to your computer! If you are interested about it, or haven't tried Meka yet, you can check the homepage linked below. It has the full list of changes available.

Frogacuda Cotton Original Translation now public
    (posted by Frogacuda - 16:07)

Former emucamp staffer Reiginsei has at last decided to upload his English translation of the playstation remake of the original Cotton, a great, if cutsey, sideview shooter. Reiginsei had been trying to get permission from Success to distribute his translation legally, sonce a patch of an ISO was impossible, but alas he was ignored. So here it is, for all of you to enjoy. It's a small download, so I rocommend giving it a shot. Try it in the new ePSXe (works great) should you be without a modded Playstation or a CD burner.

    Frogacuda ePSXe 1.0.1
    (posted by Frogacuda - 15:57)

The ePSXe homepage is back and with it a new version. ePSXe is a Playstation emu for Windows which features enhanced graphics support for 3d accelerated and non-3d accelerated systems alike. Here's what's new in the latest version of the bleem killer:

    • A completly re-written MDEC engine, which should give you better quality and some more FPS during video playback.
    • More accurate timing, which makes the videos have less pause. (MDEC timing should always be turned ON now)
    • Included two new internal CD-Rom plugins : One for WinNT/Win2k users, which uses WinNT/Win2k's native functions, and an ASPI CD-Rom plugin for Win9x and Win2k users, which is usually faster than the older plugins.
    • Fixes to XA sound playback in the internal SPU plugin.
    • Included NTSC/PAL auto detection for a more accurate timing, mainly in Square videos.
    • The ISOs are loaded directly now, without showing the BIOS logo. Added support for PSX mouse emulation. (Selectable in Config -> Controller)(*)
    • Added support for PSX analog pad emulation using Analog Pads or mouse. (selectable in Config- > Controller)(*)
    • It's now possible to disable the pads; this is necessary for some games which are only playable for 1 player. (qbert)
    • Included a new memory card selector, which comes with support for the most important memory card formats (.MCR, .MEM, .MCD, .GME)
    • Memory cards are now saved when you go to the main window and when you quit the emu incorrectly. It's still highly recommended that you close the emu using the File -> Exit option ;-)
    • Added an experimental "Change discs" option. To switch a disc, you need to go to File -> Change disc. (this isn't working with some games yet though)
    • ePSXe should work better with Lewpy's plugins now, so no more crashes when you exit the emu. The reset/continue functions should also work now on several videoboards.
    • Fixes to the CD-Rom decoder and the core, which make some more games playable like for example Final Fantasy 9, Grandia, Fear Effect, Tenchu 2 and so on ;-)
    • Added a snapshot maker in key F8. (you need the "snap" directory).
    • Since we haven't been able to fix the Chrono Cross bug yet, we added a workaround, which can be activated using the F3 key while the game freezes at that point (though this doesn't fix the status screen problem yet, you must still use the cheat code for this)

I would like to highly recommend this emu to those who haven't tried it yet. It's vastly superior to bleem. You can pick it up at the homepage, although I recommend those new to the emu swing by PSXEmu and get the installsheild which includes the frontend and all the best plugins to get you started.

Bernd DeliPlayer - Better than WinAmp
    (posted by Bernd - 08:10)

DeliPlayer used to be a popular module player for the Amiga platform. For some months there has also been a PC version of this player and for some weeks it has even been freeware. Here are some highlights of the current Deliplayer version 1.11:

    • supports Windows 9x, Windows Millenium, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000
    • full MP3 support
    • MP3 information (ID3) editor
    • Vorbis, TwinVQF, MP+ support
    • ProTracker (MOD files)
    • FastTrackerII (XM files)
    • ScreamTracker (S3M files)
    • ImpulseTracker (IT files)
    • C64-SID support
    • plays DeliTracker Amiga custom modules
    • plays all Tracker formats and derivatives with high quality
    • plays over 170 formats
    • extremely powerful playlist
    • archive support (ZIP/RAR/LHA/LZX)
    • scaling, oversampling and interpolating mixer routines
    • 10 band equalizer
    • click removal
    • dithering
    • reverb
    • wide stereo and stereo join
    • highly configurable
    • does NOT invade your privacy

Another new feature is support of WinAmp skins. Personally I am of the opinion that this player easily strikes WinAmp. WinAmp has some visual effects and other multimedia elements which you won't find in DeliPlayer but imho these features are not important for a player. Go and download this great piece of software from the Official DeliPlayer Page.

    Zoop SegaEMU 0.52
    (posted by Zoop - 05:49)

Atani has released today a new version of his Sega multi machine emulator, SegaEMU. Having been mentionned in his previous news, followers of the emulator may already now this version incorporate a major speed increase over the last one: quoting Atani, "some people have reported a 200% increase in speed", which now bring SegaEMU to a usable speed for Megadrive/Genesis emulation, if you have a fast computer. The other change in version 0.52 is graphic shift ability (if your game screen was not centered).

The Emu Farm is going to close soon for an undetermined amount of time. They hope to reopen at another URL, and will send news of their grand re-opening when they do.

But what does this mean to the emulation community? Well, as you probably know, the Emu Farm offers several rare ROMs (along with reviews, support files such as save states, and screenshot galleries) and those files are soon going to be taken down. So this is something of a "last chance for now" warning! Here's a list of rare ROMs at the site:
    • Rockman and Forte (Megaman and Bass), Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) - Translated, Super Mario Bros. 2 Japanese, Final Fantasy IV HardType - Translated, Final Fantasy V -Translated, Toejam and Earl, El Viento, Megaman X2, Megaman X3, Starflight, Samurai Pizza Cats,Gaplus (Galaga 3), River City Ransom, Xexyz, Galaga 90, A Boy and His Blob, Pinball, San 4 (Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire)
So grab what you need in hurry as they estimate the site will be down before the end of this coming week (December 10-16). Thanks to Tek7 for the news.

    • PC joystick support (DirectX not necessary)
    • more accurate Commodore 16 emulation
    • ROM bank settings now saved as well
    • some fixes in TAP save/load (HER turbo works at last...)

Zoop New games for MegaCD/SegaCD !
    (posted by Zoop - 11:08)

Good Deal Games (GDG for short) has made an announcement today regarding the release of two *new* games for the SegaCD (US version of the MegaCD). The official announcement is as follow:

Good Deal Games is proud to announce the first two new games for the SEGA CD in almost a full decade! Both Bug Blasters: The Exterminators & Star Strike were produced using high-end film, advanced puppetry, and 3D Computer Animation. Boasting $100K budgets, GDG brings the Sega CD back in style! Both games are must-have titles for any Sega CD fan! Best of all, they are available now!

Fun, isn't it? The games are supposed to be already available for purchases, but I myself wasn't able to find anywhere on the site to actually purchase them. We'll probably know more about them in the following days. In the meanwhile, start cleaning your dusty MegaCD len. Old systems will never die ^_^

    Zoop Sega System 32 Emulator!
    (posted by Zoop - 16:45)

Then the dark turned into a shining light, and a Sega System 32 was released out of nowhere.

Not really from nowhere, but today the author of the System 32 emulator which was being followed by the emulation scene a year ago decided that it was time to release a beta version of what is officially called Modeler. The sad reason of this release is that its original author does not have the time to keep up working on the emulator, and thus beside releasing the emulator, sent the source code to 'a talented programmer', hoping he will work on improving it. As of yet, feel free to try the emulator. It's not in perfect stage and doesn't have sound, but at least it'll remind you of the old days ^_^ Also expect most of the currently available ROMs sets to be corrupted (my copy of Golden Axe 2 seemed to work), but I guess it is just a matter of days for them to get spread on the internet.

The emulator is available from the Impact emulator site, and that because Ivilded - maintener of the site - was testing both emulators, although not being their author. We have yet to see if there is any relations between the two mysterious authors..

This new and definately cool WinCE NES emulator, has moved it's homepage to http://pocketnes.retrogames.com/. Along with the move there is a update to the site with some news on developement quoted below.

"Yep. Moved again. 2 times in one week. Retrogames is a well respected site and should be a great home for PocketNES. Also, I'll talk with the guys about getting us a PocketNES forum all to ourselves.

"Expect a revision out this weekend. Things I want to resolve are: (1)Fix the virtual directional keys so diagonal movement works again, (2)Fix it so that a player can press between the virtual A & B buttons and have that register as both buttons being pressed. (3) Keep a history section on the menu so you can choose the last 5 games you played or choose the last 5 game saves you made. (4) Fix the Casio version so the virtual controller always shows up at the bottom of the screen.

"I also plan to look into supporting older WinCE devices this weekend. "
