Lopantu RuMSX 0.25
(posted by Lopantu - 09:42)

The emulator of MSX computers, RuMSX, has been updated to 0.25. Here's what's new:

  • RUMSXHLP.ZIP (*updated*) contains RuMSX HTML-help files (new, because prior versions used the older WinHelp format).
  • RUMSXTST.ZIP (*updated*, huge) is provided to test-configurations of Arabic MSX2, Korean MSX and MSX2 as well as Brasilian MSX 2+ computers. A lot of japanese configurations (partially not working) are added also. Please note that several files are copyright of their respective owners, also not all features are fully working now. So you can use this extension for evaluation only! This extension is also NOT part of the InstallShield-version.
  • RUMSXUNI.ZIP (*added*) contains a trial-version of the RuMSX V0.25 unicode build (MSXW.EXE), which supports world-wide character sets in the single file. The unicode-version requires Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP for execution. This file is NOT part of the InstallShield-version.
  • MSX-Printer emulation improved (subscript+superscript added, graphics printing in Dynamic-Publisher works now too)
  • \"Harry Fox Yki\" renamed to \"Harry Fox with Snow Demonking\" to avoid confusion between different versions of the game.
  • System-Info property-page: increased size of processor info because some translations have been truncated
  • Removed Windows Help from menu
  • Changed helpfile from *.HLP to *.CHM format (requires Internet-Explorer 4 or HHUPD.EXE to be installed) and provided new MSDN-like help with Full-Text-Search index.
  • Fixed MSX Turbo-R configurations for improved compatibility
  • Moved MSXTRMUS.ROM into Slot 0-2
  • Added MSXTROPT.ROM into Slot 0-3
  • Slot 0 is now expanded and TR-logo is displayed
  • Added new RuMSX-icons
  • Configuration-editor corrupted RuMSX configurations if a memory-block exceeded 4 pages (i.e. as MSX1 RAM)
  • Added \"Hangul\" key-support in addition to \"Kana\" (requires presence of native MSX language information in RuMSX configuration files)
  • DISK.ROM can now be inserted into any available slot if the MSX configuration does not provide disk-support (previous versions did not patch the BIOS entries)
  • Added support for concatenated disk-images
Locale-Dialog could failed to restore default keyboard-layout (if changed), a valid driver-file have had to be selected.

Lopantu Magic Engine 0.9.9 Beta 2
(posted by Lopantu - 09:34)

The Christmas version of the shareware emulator for all variations of the TurboGraphix-16/PCEngine, Magic Engine, has arrived, just in time for the new year :P The delay occured because the new Windows beta had a new code to play CD audio tracks, but it didn't work with all the Windows versions. They readded the old code to compensate. A few non-working CDs work fine now. This emulator costs $16 to register.

    Lopantu ZX-ISHSPECTRUM 1.0 NTSC-PAL
    (posted by Lopantu - 14:36)

Ishmair has updated his spectrum emulator for the Dreamcast to include NTSC support. He mentions that the PAL version is smoother, as the NTSC version has some flicker on the on screen keyboard as the emulated speed on both versions is 50 Hz. If your television supports 50 Hz frequency, use the PAL version. Here are the features:

    • Own Z80 engine written in assembler.
    • Sound and Graphics engines with overscan (multiple colors per line) also in assembler.
    • It supports Z80 v1,v2,v3 and SNA 48k file formats.
SAVE to VMU not supported yet.
    • Screen centering.
    • Contended memory emulated (it still needs some adjustements)
    • You need only a single dreamcast controller to play,it doesn't support the dreamcast keyboard, i don't have any.
    • Kempston Joystick emulated with the analog pad and button A.
    • Digital pad and buttons X,Y,B can be redefined as any key on the spectrum keyboard.
    • START invokes menu.
    • START+X+A+Y+B resets dreamcast.

Visit our new Dreamcast Emulation page for the download.

Released yesterday is this bugfix release version of this NES emulator for Linux, DOS, and Windows. Here is this versions changelist:

  • Fixed several bugs with sprite emulation. Several games(such as "Trojan" and "VS Duck Hunt") that were broken in .71 and .72 now work ok.

  • Added support for iNES mapper 250(used by "Time Diver Avenger").
  • Fixed the documentation to show that iNES mappers 48, 83, and 232 are supported.
  • Removed various pieces of stale code and fixed a few minor bugs.
  • Fixed a triangle wave channel bug(the channel was sometimes enabled when it shouldn't have been).
  • Writing to $4010 with the upper bit clear now acknowledges the DPCM IRQ. This appears to fix "Stunt Buggies".
  • Rewrote pieces of the Zapper emulation code to be cleaner and more accurate.
  • Rewrote the VS Unisystem dip switch drawing code.
  • Simplified the setting of VS Unisystem dip switches. The "V" key now toggles viewing AND editing of dip switches.

    fixo Modeler 0.9.3a
    (posted by fixo - 08:19)

Modeler, an arcade emulator currently running Sega System 32, Sega System 32 Multi and Sega Model 1 for Windows, Linux and Mac, has been updated to v0.9.3a with following changes:

    Linux:

    • Removed some debug printing for Model 1 games
    Win32:
    • Relinked with static multithreaded MSVCRT for better compatibility
    • Includes CVS SDL with support for 4 joypads

    • Now includes the faster V60 core like 0.9.3 Linux and MacOS (damn misnamed files)

    • Kaillera support for Outrunners

    Common:
    • Rewritten memory handling system gives a speedup in all games
    • 2 player support in Outrunners

    • As a result of all the speedups, I've dropped the minimum requirement from 450 to 350 MHz for x86 PCs. Outrunners and other demanding games are now very playable (45+ FPS) without sound on my P2-400 test machine.

    • V60 CPU core fixes from Luca Elia of MAMEdev. We're unaware of any obvious things corrected by these, but hey :)

Known problems: (do not waste time on the boards asking about these)
    • Rad Mobile flashes "Motor Trouble" or similar. To fix, hit Insert to enter the test menu, press Home to highlight "Game and System Setting", press Insert to enter that screen, then press 1 until Cabinet Type is highlighted. Press space to change it to "upright", then press Insert. Press Home until "Quit" is highlighted, exit test mode, then press Esc to make sure the settings are saved to your harddisk.

    • Star Wars Arcade shows an error on startup.

    • Outrunners sound when you go off the road is annoying.

    • Controls do not work if you change the cabinet type from the default. This also happens on the real PCB because 2 player cabinets have a different input daughtercard than 4 player ones. Thus, you must use the US ROM sets to play GA2 or Spiderman with 4 players. Also, you must not change the US sets to "2 player" in the test menu.

    • Sound is not correct in Hard Dunk.

    • The pitch (field for those who don't speak futbol) is not drawn properly in SVF.

    fixo MAME WIP
    (posted by fixo - 10:28)

The MAME Work-In-Progress page has been restyled and updated again with following development news and many screenshots:

    • 2001-12-02: Luca Elia sent in a driver for SSV games, including Dramatic Adventure Quiz Keith & Lucy, Drift Out '94, Gourmet Battle Quiz Ryorioh CooKing, Mahjong Hyper Reaction 2, Monster Slider and Survival Arts. Twin Eagle II, Mahjong Hyper Reaction, Super Real Mahjong PIV and Super Real Mahjong P7 don't work due to V60 CPU core bugs. William Kucharski submitted a cleaned up but still non-functional driver for Konami's S.P.Y.
    • 2001-12-01: Phil Stroffolino updated the Namco NA1/2 driver, fixing a significant number of graphics glitches. Aaron Giles reorganized the Bally/Sente drivers and added preliminary support for Shrike Avenger (prototype) but it doesn't work due to lack of understanding about the controls. Smitdogg fixed DIP switch settings in Truxton 2.
    • 2001-11-30: Uki converted the Fairyland Story / Onna Sanshirou driver to tilemaps and fixed some palette and sound problems. Aaron Giles improved the handling of AY8910 and YM2203 simultaneously, and fixed the all-black palette in Break Thru.
    • 2001-11-29: Jarek Burczynski added the ADPCM sound chip emulation to Roller Jammer, but both it and Tube Panic still lack sprite graphics, adding of which may be impossible without a MCU ROM dump. Aaron Giles fixed a probable crash in some Atari games, the Paperboy sound sync issue and Alley Master / Power Play background graphics. Stephane Humbert fixed DIP switch settings and flipscreen support in a few drivers.

    Roni FCE Ultra 0.72
    (posted by Roni - 09:22)

The Nintendo emulator FCE Ultra was updated yesterday. The ports including in the update is a new DOS release which hasn't officially been updated since 0.40. And the usual Windows and Linux/x86 (SVGALib) ports. Not noted in the readme is the fact that the Linux port is now compiled with gcc 2.95.3 instead of previous 3.0 for compatibility (thank you ;). Here's the new stuff:

  • Various minor bug fixes.
  • Various code cleanups and size and speed optimizations.
  • Removed some (apparently) unused MMC5 sound emulation code.
  • Changed the behavior of $2003 and $4014 to better simulate what occurs in a real NES.
  • Fixed a few bugs in the undocumented 6502 opcode emulation code. The Game Genie code "NUTANT" for SMB 3 works correctly now, at least(previously it caused the game to lock up at the end of levels).
  • Rewrote large pieces of the 6502 memory fetching code, resulting in a slight slowdown in the speed of emulation. Benefits include: Game Genie emulation now works(again) and 6502 emulation is more accurate.
  • Added support for iNES mapper 72. Thanks to rinao for the information.
  • Fixed support for iNES mapper 77(used by Napoleon Senki).
  • Fixed/Added support for iNES mapper 226. Apparently I made a mistake in the documentation. Thanks to Mark K. for the information.
  • Added support for iNES mapper 227. Thanks to Mark K. for the information.
  • Added support for iNES mapper 234(used by the Maxi-15). Thanks to Mark K. for the information. Note that many of the Maxi-15 ROM images on the Internet have corrupt CHR data(graphics), or the mapper number is set incorrectly(usually to 11). Use a utility to fix the mapper number.
  • Added support for the following UNIF boards(prefixes omitted):
    - EKROM (and fixed the reference to "Gemfire" in the documentation).
    - HKROM

It is still very much alive. Laser now has a driver system, so it has merged with Laser. The next release of Laser may contain a sega discrete arcade game or two. Also, the Laser homepage now once again has a message board. As always, information is desperately needed for Sega's discrete circuitry games, so please post on Laser's message board, or send me an e-mail if you have anything.
