| Interview with Duddie and Kazzuya |
Start of #psemu buffer: Sat Nov 28 10:46:23 1998
*** Now talking in #psemu
duddie: moment
DaemoN: allright
*** kazcodign (davide@1Cust4.tnt1.sherman-oaks.ca.da.uu.net) has joined #psemu
kazcodign: ummmmm
* DaemoN_ bows down to psemu's ruleness
duddie: daemon wants to interview us
duddie: why not
DaemoN: hehe
duddie: :)
DaemoN: just before the interview...
DaemoN: did any of you hear (like one year or two ago) about "HEAVEN" ?
DaemoN: (a neogeo emulator)
kazcodign: hey
kazcodign: i'm back
DaemoN: welcome, kaz :)
kazcodign: thankss
duddie: nope -> i dont use NeoGeo emu
DaemoN: hehe
DaemoN: it was my 1st attempt of a neogeo emulator ^_^ i was one of the first dude to try it...people told me "it's impossible!"
kazcodign: nope never heard.. i used a ng emu but was a fake my friend rasty did 8)
duddie: kaz: i think this time we can make serious interview?
kazcodign: duddie i'm not drunk.. 8)
duddie: yeah, the same way was to me: they told: PSX emulation is impossible -> here we go :)
DaemoN: hehe yeah :)
DaemoN: well first of all
duddie: ----------------- HERE STARTS INTERVIEW ----------------
DaemoN: what 'happened' to make the PSEMU team merge with PSYKE team? You were considered "rivals" before, now you're UNITED.
kazcodign: cough cough
duddie: we never been rivals
DaemoN: no?
duddie: we were competiting, but in friendly way!
duddie: we are all friends.
DaemoN: oh i understand. but what more 'exactly' got you and the psyke team to 'merge'
kazcodign: well psyke was pretty much dead..
duddie: now, when PSyKe was supposed to be dead, why not continue GREAT JOB that moonshado and rasky did before?
DaemoN: hmm yes i agree...they did some great work on the 3D video drivers
duddie: PSyKe contains many things that are better in comparission to PSEmu
*** kazcodign is now known as kazzuya
duddie: and anyway, MORE PEOPLE WORKING = BETTER PRODUCT!
duddie: and MORE IDEAS AS WELL!
DaemoN: hmm i agree with you
duddie: PSEmu is an open product, currently many people can write plugins (GPU, PAD, CDROM)
duddie: and soon (when standard estabilish) we will launch sources to SPU plugin as well
DaemoN: hmm
duddie: there will be some more Plugins soon as well, that will allow making extarnal debuggers and whatever people will want
duddie: we are trying to listen, and implement MARVELOUS features
kazzuya although i'm starting to get confused with all those plugins..
duddie: :):):)
DaemoN: hehe
kazzuya: ehehe
DaemoN: kaz's software driver is the best...
DaemoN: and the glide one rules as well... yesterday i was playing G-Darius at full speed [evil grin]
kazzuya: thanks.. but we hope to do better with d3d and opengl so that psx game son pc look better
DaemoN: yes - one question people asked me a lot: Will it be easy to fix those graphical 'errors' when using 3D drivers?
DaemoN: Glide, for example.
duddie: It depends on Plugin authors
duddie: currently only few plugins are done by Internal Development
kazzuya: its generally pretty difficoult to emulate psx vram using 3d cards
duddie: but it is possible... things take time.\
DaemoN: i understand
DaemoN: now about bleem
duddie: just PSEmu Professional is a brand new product
DaemoN: heh
duddie: and it is still unfinished :)
DaemoN: (and it still rules anyways hehe)
duddie: bleem - i will say a word when i get it into my hands
duddie: now, skip this question
DaemoN: allright
DaemoN: let me see what was the 3rd one (i lost my little piece of paper hehe)
kazzuya: u still use paper ? 8)
DaemoN: hehe i was almost sleeping on my bed XD
DaemoN: so i wrote on paper hehe
duddie: geez, end of 20th century and he uses paper :)
kazzuya: so we are goign to get sleepy questions ? I see ehehe
DaemoN: about Psemu Optimization - Do you think that people with 'old' hardware will be able to, *someday* play PSEMUPRO at full speed?
duddie: I think that Kazzuya can say more about it.
kazzuya: maybe p200 and hardware accelerator..
DaemoN: hmm
kazzuya: i dont think you can do tekken 3 60fps on a 200 in software rendering
DaemoN: for example
kazzuya: if you can.. it's still low resolution.. looks better on psx 8)
DaemoN: i can play some 3D games at *full* speed in my pc using both software or glide driver...
DaemoN: *but*
duddie: but?
DaemoN: some games, like tekken 3, runs way slower than others. is this a 'specific' case? like optimizing the code to run specific with game XXX or YYY ?
kazzuya: tekken3 is pretty fast if you run with hardware acceleration.. in software rendering slows down considerably cause it uses 384x480 resolution
DaemoN: hehe yes - i play it at 640x480 using glide here...
DaemoN: and i have a powerful machine...
kazzuya: umm and how many fps ?
DaemoN: hmm i never looked at the fps...
duddie: i think it should be full speed!
kazzuya: cause with rendering disabled tekken3 does 59 fps on my P200MMX
DaemoN: it doesn't run at FULL speed :\
duddie: i'm getting full speed with *NO* powerfull machine
DaemoN: i have a PII 333, 64mb Ram, Banshee 16MB (AGP 2X)
duddie: k6-2 300 + VooDoo II
kazzuya: daemon: how do youknwo it's not full speed ? 8)
duddie: on PII 333 it works faster than on PSX (with VooDoo2)!
duddie: I'm sure
DaemoN: coz i have a playstation here 8) i compared both
duddie: it gets 79 fps
kazzuya: banshee has some problems with glide.. btu still shoudl go pretty fast for tk3
duddie: TESTED!
DaemoN: hmm
kazzuya: daemon: maybe you shoudl give me your PII 333 8)
DaemoN: hehe
duddie: I think you should disable XA-Read and XA-Decode to gain some speed!
kazzuya: maybe it's a banshee glide thing.. wanna swap with my voodoo1 ?
DaemoN: i always test PSEMU on my 2 machines... a PMMX 200 with 32mb ram and Voodoo1, and in this other PII 333 :)
DaemoN: hehe
DaemoN: now let's get to the *nice* part
duddie: NEXT QUESTION, PLEASE
DaemoN: could you both provide the Emucamp readers some *exclusive* news on the development of PSEMUPRO?
duddie: we dont know :)
kazzuya: umm bug fixes 8) ..and perhaps some mystery plugins in the future..
DaemoN: mystery plugins?
kazzuya: perhaps
DaemoN: errr
DaemoN: what do you mean with 'mystery' plugins?
kazzuya: well we need to get d3d and opengl going straight
kazzuya: i need to see what's needed in psemu and if i have time i may try to help with hardware acceleration
duddie: oke, one feature: we work on getting 3dNow! optimizations!
DaemoN: yay!
duddie: K6-2 users will be satisfied (like me!)
kazzuya: cause if i wan tto play low res i can just switch on my psx
DaemoN: hehe
kazzuya: yes 3dnow! gimme a k6-2 now! ehehe
DaemoN: oh by the way yesterday i was playing and i found some little strange bug...
DaemoN: seemed like some buffering problem or something (correct me, i'm not THAT great programmer XD)
kazzuya: little is good
DaemoN: sound in games like Marvel Super Heroes...
DaemoN: when i hit the enemy for example, it played 'part' of the sound that was in the main intro screen
kazzuya: ahh which sound plugin ?
DaemoN: DirectSound
kazzuya: ops eheh.. yes i did dsound without debugging too much
duddie: we work on better Sound!
duddie: and use spuSeal <- more compatible
DaemoN: yay that rules
kazzuya: dsound was released ina rush cause it was to fix problems people had with my gpu plugin in fullscreen
DaemoN: oh i understand
duddie: IS THIS INERVIEW OR HELP ONLINE???
kazzuya: ehehehe
DaemoN: uhhhh looks like both :) as i told you i'll have to make it look like an interview hehe
DaemoN: Ok back to the questions then ;)
DaemoN: About the compatibility rate - is it a bigger priority than speeding up stuff? i mean - will you work more on speedups or in make more stuff run?
duddie: I work on Compatibilty
duddie: ONLY
kazzuya: i'm for compatibility..
duddie: i never care about speed
duddie: there are better optimizers (like kazzuya or tratax) that can do it for me
kazzuya: i worked on gte and now it's fairly fast.. can be faster.. but we want to run games before they run fast
DaemoN: ok
kazzuya: hopefully the merge with psyke will bring better compatibility..
DaemoN: Do you guys plan on adding NETPLAY on PSEMUPRO?
kazzuya: whenever the actual merge will happen..
duddie: NET-PLAY is what is in Plans
duddie: but we dont have TIME :) (work, family, etc)
kazzuya: deamon: neat idea.. but i wonder how it would work. Games that use link cable on psx relay onthe fact that there is no latency
DaemoN: kaz: yes, but how about netplay working as a 2nd controller? 8)
DaemoN: like Sardu/Icer did on Callus95?
kazzuya: in toshiden pc we put network fight option.. but playing on the Internet was impossible
DaemoN: o_O
kazzuya: daemon: well netplay for anything is good.. just not Internet
DaemoN: hehe it would be cool do use directblablabla to play via modem as well :)
DaemoN: i'm still getting questions
kazzuya: DirectInput uses TCP/IP ..too slow
DaemoN: this one is from atila, retrogames.com:
DaemoN: "what can we expect from TAB?"
duddie: TAB means nothing, we just put it as a confusing thing -> IT WORKED!!!
DaemoN: hehehe
kazzuya: lots of compromises between the 2 teams and a better emulator for the users
duddie: it will still be BETTER EMULATOR!
DaemoN: people sent me things like "Tab means That's All Bullshit" etc etc :)
duddie: and name will remain PSEmu
duddie: maybe PSEmu/PSyKe - nothing is sure
DaemoN: remaining psemu... good
duddie: TAB means nothing
DaemoN: PsyEmu? XD hehe
duddie: simply
DaemoN: hehe cool
DaemoN: two last questions (simple ones)
duddie: thanx god :)
duddie: I have to go smoking and drink coffey
duddie: :)
DaemoN: this one is from Victor Rosario and loads of other people: "why does psemupro have trouble running on some specific Windows 95 machines?"
DaemoN: hehe ^_^
duddie: The answer is simple: EVERY PC IS DIFFERENT!
DaemoN: hehehe
duddie: but we have two really great sites with help:
kazzuya: daemon: maybe cause of the plugin architecture.. people need to try several configurations before one works well
duddie: http://come.to/PSFAQ
DaemoN: kaz: i agree with that... anyways, all psemupro plugins run great in my configuration [another evil grin]
duddie: and second one (kaz, remind it)
duddie: AND ALSO IS ONE THING MORE:
duddie: * PEOPLE NEVER READ TEXT AND HELP FILES *
DaemoN: hehehe
duddie: * PEOPLE GOT USED TO M$ WORD, THAT WORKS EVERY TIME *
kazzuya: emmmm www.taras.org/tng
DaemoN: ok last question now
duddie: * ALL IS EXPLAINED ON PSEMU SITE AND ON HELP SITES AND IN TEXT FILES *
duddie: OKE.
DaemoN: What happened with that 'beta' site you people did before psemupro's arrival? to beta test it? Lots of people subscribed on it but almost noone ever heard a word from you again (like me hehehe)
duddie: Beta Test became public
duddie: we were unable to answer over 20.000 mails
duddie: we were surprised with so big audition
DaemoN: hehehe
duddie: now we have two Beta Phases
duddie: *PRIVATE BETA* = for all those without troubles (contact on EFNet #psemu)
DaemoN: uh efnet psemu = here :)
duddie: and *PUBLIC BETA* = shows 2-5 days later on www.psemu.com and is updated regullary according to Bug Reports
duddie: then we do:
duddie: *RELEASE VERSION*
DaemoN: ok
duddie: For everyone knowledge: Betas are numbered odd, Release even (the build number)
duddie: and one thing more: *BETA* is for experienced users
DaemoN: can you provide www.emucamp.com screenshots, as a part of 'exclusive', to be added togheter with the interview? (i mean screens of games that are working NOW that weren't before...)
duddie: if someone have troubles running even release version, beta is surelly not for him
kazzuya: umm i dont have FF7 to take shots
DaemoN: oh i have FF7 :)
DaemoN: *lame hint* hehe
kazzuya: a picture of my pasta is good enough ?
DaemoN: o_O
kazzuya: I guess not.. emmmm
DaemoN: hehe
DaemoN: we here in brasil like pasta :) like italians do :D
kazzuya: ahh and you ppl say ciao.. actually tchau
DaemoN: yes 'tchau' :)
kazzuya: and you guys watch F1 and soccer..
* kazzuya hugs DaemoN_
kazzuya: eheheh kidding !
DaemoN: hehe
DaemoN: i'm looking forward for playing TEKKEN *2* on psemupro hehehehe
duddie: i can also say: ciao :):)
duddie: I dont have tekken 2
kazzuya: oh yeah.. I want Armored Core I want it
DaemoN: well i have *plenty* of games here, if you dudes needs me to send CD-R copies *_*
DaemoN: anyways...
DaemoN: -----end of the interview---------
DaemoN: i have to save this log and work on it
DaemoN: :)
kazzuya: ok u going to cut the bad words ? (bleem) kidding 8)
DaemoN: hehehe
DaemoN: well thanks a lot for taking your time, and being so nice
DaemoN: this review will be soon on emucamp.com
DaemoN: (and i have to go aswell coz my parents are bugging me ;_; )
kazzuya: thank you for being an informative channel betwen psemu and the users (what am i talking about)
