Enter Penguin Land- where you, the commander of a special Penguin Task Force, are in charge of a mission to journey into deep and mysterious caverns in search of foreign eggs to take back (via spaceship) to your home land. I'm not joking here- check the box :)
Completion of your mission requires guiding the eggs through a series of levels, 30 of them altogether. These nasty little mazes contain their fair share of nasty little booby traps and enemies, who will stop at nothing to do what you are trying not to- crack that egg. There's a time limit there to throw a spanner into the works, too, and a flying bird who comes along and drops something on your egg if you leave it in the one spot too long.
It looks easy enough, but there's some thought required in playing it, and the levels are longer than you'd think. As with many classic puzzlers, such as Tetris and Pacman, it's one of those 'simple but effective,' addictive games capable of sucking you right in for longer periods of time than you might have intended...
The cute graphics are simple but part of the fun, although it would be nice to see a bit more variety than different coloured backgrounds. The equally cheery music sounds great, especially in an emulator such as Meka or Massage that supports FM music, but as with the graphics, it lacks variety- you'll be fed up with that one constant tune before long.
One of the coolest parts of the game is the level editor. You can create, save and play up to 15 of your own levels.
Another version of this game exists- for the SG-1000, Sega's pre-SMS game console (supported by emulators such as Meka and BrSMS). This version isn't as good as the SMS version, and the graphics and sound aren't as good either, but it has different levels and it's fun just to try out. It's included with the SMS roms in our zip file, which you can download from the box below.

Penguin Land is an amusing, original puzzler that can be addictive and fun- although if you like games with a little more depth and/or aren't that keen on puzzlers, maybe it isn't the one for you. Download it and find out for yourself.
